Pretty self explanatory, but I just wanted to know because I was looking at the courses for Exeter, and I'm wondering what math class I'll fit into. Then again i understand there's probably a test that I'll have to take to place me accordingly
I'm currently taking Adv. Algebra II and Trig (well at least it's advanced for my school) which would put me into Pre Calc for next year. I'm currently a freshman but that doesn't really matter lol. Also I consistently get Bs, since it is by far my worst class. I always get a 3.8 because of math.
Anyway anyone know what math they'd place me in at Exeter? Also what math are you taking?

Here is a link to the course catalog. Its different than last years so I don’t know what course we’ll be taking. I currently take Honors Geometry.

http://www.exeter.edu/documents/COI/COIfinal2014-15.pdf#page=53

Look at this pdf for Math 1. This is really outdated but then again this might the stuff that we do.
https://www.exeter.edu/documents/math1all.pdf
and then math 2?!???!?!? cries because i don’t even now what a vector is
https://www.exeter.edu/documents/math2all.pdf
idk man i know a lot of people start off even a lot worse than us but still ![]()
I’ll have to ask my sophomore friend what math she’s currently taking

The math system is so confusing @boardingjunkie!

Very true. However what I do know is that it is based off of word problems. So you basically have to truly know the concept of what you’re learning to do well on a test. I’ll probably work through some of them so that I can help myself get into that kind of mindset of learning math. Probably won’t follow through hey it’s worth a try.

Wow! You guys make me feel so behind. I’m currently taking the highest course offered at my school (Algebra 1) and doing some crash course Geometry in an outside program. Honestly, I’d love to be able to take Algebra 2 freshman year, but it’s more likely that I’ll be taking Honors Geometry or something. Anybody know any good programs for teaching yourself/learning geometry online?

hey @prepschoolhopes don’t feel that behind I am a freshman so the fact that i’m taking alg 2 doesn’t make me some crazy 8th grader (though I had 8th graders and even a 7th grader in my class last semester). Honors geometry next year is good and that is wht my 8th grade brother will take. You should just strive to do the best work you can because what you’re doing is good work. I don’t know any truly great programs but if you need extra help khan academy is actually pretty good.
As for the textbook I used last year I used the 2005 edition geometry book. here’s a link: <a href=“Decommissioned Products | McGraw Hill”>Decommissioned Products | McGraw Hill;
i’m sure you could find the entire textbook online illegally lol, i’m not one to judge.

Wow. You guys are reading way more into this than necessary so soon after M10. To answer the OP’s question, you will be taking whichever course they tell you that you will be taking based upon your placement test.

@prepschoolhopes - try Khan Academy!!! It’s free online, and it’s wonderful! A lot of kids in the homeschool community have been using it for their studies in high school…

Don’t worry about starting at a lower math level, then other people. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and different opportunities. You won’t be judged for starting off in 13T, for example, as opposed to 23X. The math level you’re in says nothing about your intellect level, it merely shows the amount of past opportunity you’ve had. You ended up learning things far more in depth in exeter math classes then you might by teaching yourself, so you really don’t have to look to outside sources. Don’t stress about it. Seriously!

Algebra 1…looks sadly outside her window in an empty house all alone crying because she knows there is a privileged BS student out there who took that course in like six grade

@JerseyGirl999 lol its fine. Many students across the US take Algebra I in the 8th or even 9th grade. You aren’t mediocre just because you weren’t exposed to multiplication and division in the 1st grade or reading Shakespeare by the 4th. There’s always a place for you to succeed at whichever school you are going to. What school do you plan to attend?

Hehe thanks
@boardingjunkie I’m attending kent school next fall :)

@JerseyGirl999 thats a great school and I’m sure you’ll do great there! I’m possibly attending Exeter, Cate, or Loomis!

Omg congrats
I don’t need to say how great they are cuz they r self explanatory but hehe

I’m taking geometry. Ergh, I feel so behind. I want to do Alg 2 next year, but I might just get landed in Honors Geometry… (I’m Asian, so I have those stereotypes to live up to. :D)

Algebra 2 as a freshman

I’ve actually never had prob with school math. I finished the whole high school curriculum last year and self studied Calculus… math olympiad stuff…
But, I have something that can help you
@boardingjunkie @prepschoolhopes : “khanacademy.org”
it has saved my life so many times, and it is impossible not to understand when sal khan is explaining xD youll know what vectors and many other things are in no time ;)) hope i helped

I’m a freshman and I’m taking geometry honors right now so I’ll probably take algebra II honors next year… I feel so behind in math compared to the rest of you haha

My DD’s current school uses the Exeter math curriculum/book/method. She has found Khan Academy to be a very helpful supplement. I’ll be curious to see where she is placed, as the Exeter curriculum meanders down it’s own path, so to speak ;-)
