what math calsses do u take?

I think Calculus IV often involves proofs of many of the foundational theories of Calculus, though I’m not sure. My school doesn’t offer it in that name, but I get this from looking at summer classes, namely at Penn.

As to the question about Linear Algebra or Diff Eq, in my opinion it doesn’t really matter. The coursework in the classes is independent enough so that you don’t need one or the other as a pre-req.

The thing I would be more concerned about is that I know that many of my upper-level classes have Linear Algebra as a pre-req, and the only one at my school that has Diff Eq as a prerequisite is Partial Diff. Eq. It may be worth it to look through the other classes he is planning on taking and see if Linear Algebra is needed prior to the class. In that case it may be best to take Linear first because it may be a gateway to upper level.

im lookin at most of the graduate level quant finance courses offered, including the one mentioned above offered in Princeton…im lookin at Financial Engineering at Columbia, Mathematics and Finance at NYU, and also the one offered at Rutgetrs

On the Princeton U website, try going to the FAQ section in either OR or Bendheim Center; several articles are referred to that are fascinating. I am not good at manipulating this machine, hence unable to attach, etc. The differences between quant finance education, general finance and MBA programs are described well. As I understand it, it seems there are few quant jobs, one must come from elite programs and will be competing against PhDs in math, physics, etc. More general finance jobs, the MFin degrees may pose a threat to those MBAs who have traditionally gone into PE, hedge funds, etc.

The emphasis seems to be on graduating from a top school. And quant finance seems to be the province of those who, in the Sputnik era, might have become rocket scientists.

Quant= Minimum MS ( Financial Engineering, Computational fiance etc) Usually PHD

Analyst = Undegrad CS, Math or Engineering
