i’m going to UofSC in the fall and i got a 3 on my Ap calc exam which counts towards a math class for me. I don’t know which class i should take. I can take calc 2 , finite math, or math modeling for life sciences. Do you know what’s the easiest? (my major is bio)
https://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/undergraduate_admissions/requirements/for_freshmen/ap_ib_credits/ says that 3 on AP calculus fulfills MATH 141.
https://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/advising/documents/major_maps/2019-2020/2019_bio-sciences_map.pdf allows MATH 142, 170, or 172 but lists 142 as the recommended choice.
Before taking a course that lists MATH 141 as a prerequisite, you may want to try the old MATH 141 final exams to check your knowledge. Some are linked at the bottom of this page: http://people.math.sc.edu/thornef/math141/index.html .
Yes, be careful about placing out of a college course when you meet the minimum threshold. While high schools like to say their AP courses are the same as college courses … they’re usually not.
It may be beneficial to retake Calc in college. It certainly doesn’t hurt to refresh or improve your skills, and it could benefit your overall GPA. It worked out well for my son.
