What Math Class Should I Take? Math 16 or 21?

I’m going to be a freshman at UC Davis next year, but I’m wondering which math series I should take. I’m majoring in Managerial Economics and the General Catalog says that I need to take Mathematics 16A-16B-16C or 21A-21B.

I got a 44 on the math placement test and a trig subscore of 7.

I’m okay at math… I took AP Calc AB this year and I’ve gotten 1 A and 3 B’s.

So which series do you think I should take? What are the differences? Which one will benefit me in the long run?

Thanks in advance!

The 21 series is for engineering and hard science majors, while the 16 series is for everything else (except biosci, which uses the 17 series). If you think you may switch to an engineering or hard science (besides biosci) major, take the 21 series. If not, take the 16 series.

Im a man econ major as well and took the mat 16 series. So far these classes have been some of the easiest I have taken at UCD. Since you are a man econ major as well dont even bother with 21 series even though it requires two math classes (21a and 21b) instead of three its not worth the trouble.

also stay away from professor cherney wrost math teacher I have ever had

Take the 21 series if you think you might switch your major to engineering/math
The 16 series is high school calculus

Also, take the 21 series if you’re interested in graduate school in economics.

21A and 21B aren’t THAT hard…
