I just checked my UT Transfer App and it says I got denied from Engineering school. Here are my stats:

3.956 with over 50 transferable hours
tons of extra-curricular activities and awards
3 good essays
2 letters of recommendation

I had the indicator course mark for Caluclus, However I have calculus 2 in progress, actually making a high A in it so far. Also taking Chem 1, Physics 2 this semester. How could they possibly make a decision while I have some of the required courses in progress? I wonder if I should appeal, and what are my chances?

You have calc 2 in process? That means ( in terms of UT) that you don’t have the first calc completed yet, UT has only calc 1 and 2. I assume that your current school has up to calc 3.

are you out of state? i mean that is the only thing i could possibly believe went wrong.
I got in with 32 hours 17 of which were from high school. Although my recommendation letters were probably a factor.

well, if you just do a bit of research you’d have seen that being a Texas resident (and graduating from a tx hs) is extraordinarily important in admission.

you asked “what may have gone wrong” clearly it wasn’t your gpa. you mentioned your activities and awards were strong so perhaps they didnt like your essays, or your recommendations.
I was just answering your question because i feel your measurable achievements qualify you… However, you should submit an appeal, thats what i would have done, good luck to you!

“If, however, the college or university from which you submit transferable coursework teaches calculus in a three-semester sequence, you must complete the first two semesters of the sequence to demonstrate calculus readiness.”

@Aheng90 - You are applying to CSE, but what is your first/second choice major?

I am also applying to transfer, but as an international. I have completed 32 hours. I am taking right know Calculus II and Physics II. I should expect a decision by the end of this week, but I dont know for sure if I will hear from them soon because of the fact that I havent completed Calculus II. I think they will put me on hold until I show them my spring grades. What do you guys think?

@theholgram &Griddz- My situation is unique; I am actually an international student/ Texas resident. I graduated from a high school overseas, and then received GED here in Texas after having lived in TX for 36 months.

Surprisingly, my application was reconsidered for a review after 24 hours. I got a phone call from UT in the following morning asking me what courses I am currently taking and how my performance is!!! I did not even have to go through the appeal process.

@Aheng90 - Its very important UT knows what courses you are currently taking. Last week I had to fax a document to the university showing my current coursework (already mentioned) for spring 2013.

I had the opportunity to talk with a counselor of my department. She told me that showing a credit in Calculus I and proof of in-credit Calculus II was enough to be considered for admission. I believe this process is followed almost at every engineering admission department.

I mean, your profile looks awesome. I think that UT automatically appealed your admission without the need of your intervention. You are a domestic transfer right?

I am a domestic transfer, that is correct. I do not know why they rejected me then reconsidered me again! My app still says in review. Fingers crossed!!!

Thanks @ the hologram- have you received a decision yet?
