What medical specialty are you currently attracted to?

I've been into the brain and how it develops for a while now, so ideally I would do something in pediatric neurosurgery or neurology. But I've also recently developed an interest in neonatology as well as pediatric intensive care. Anyway, what about you guys? :]

Diagnostic Radiology

Interventional Radiology

Being a diagnostician has always seemed pretty cool... ;)

Only diagnostician I've ever seen is Greg House. Oncology/Surgery for me.

Neurology has always interested me. BRAINS!!! MMMMmmm... oh and maybe be an Ophthalmologist EYEBALLS ARE AWESOME! But I'm still too young to even know if medicine is my path...

and on a side note:

I would love to meet the person who is truly interested in proctology. I'm not making fun of you, I would just really like to meet you :D lol

I don't think proctology is that bad. You clean out their bowels before doing things like colonoscopy's. Ob/Gyn is probably worse. To many vaginas with herpes and yeast infections. =(

yeah I think generally anything with those areas seems odd to be interested in.

I mean you have the occasional immature kid who says, "I wanna be an OB/GYN so I get to see girls all the time" lol and then its funny when they realize "OH GOD EWW" from all the types of infections and colors they find.

Also feet are at the bottom of my list. lol

oncology..cancer is a horrible thing..

Neuroscience most def!

This topic, being in the HS student section, makes me laugh...

Pediatric Critical Care. <insert snarky="" comment="" about="" me="" being="" old,="" becoming="" a="" resident="" this="" year="" and="" the="" only="" one="" who="" won't="" change="" their="" mind="" specialty=""></insert>

Get out of our section you old fart!

:D

Anesthesiology.

yeah I'm in to Anesthesiology as well.

OBGYN, Oncologist, Neurologist. I used to worry over which one i was going to go for but now I just tell myself i have all of highschool and pretty much all of my undergrad time to decide.

You actually have most of medical school as well...and Oncology is a fellowship, so you wouldn't even have to make a final decision on that until the second year of a pediatrics or internal medicine residency.

Internal medicine, GENETICS (which isn't a specialty, just a different career I'm attracted to), general surgery, neurosurgery...

I don't like subspecialties. I don't like the feeling of being so involved in just one area of the body.

There is a Medical Genetics specialty. Usually (though not always) these physicians are also trained as pediatricians (since most genetic syndromes present in childhood).

It's very common dislike the idea of being limited to one body system, though alternatively some people like that they get to just focus on one aspect of care and can then hand off problems in other systems to different doctors. There are some specialties - like critical care - that are involved in a lot of different body systems. Rheumatology and endocrine are certainly limited to very specific processes of disease, but see a broad range of involvement throughout the body. Some diseases also end up the realm of one particular specialty but have a lot of issues throughout the body - Cystic Fibrosis is one example, primarily lungs and care is coordinated by pulmonologists, but have to deal with a lot of GI, infectious disease, and nutrition issues as well.

General surgery or cardiothoracic.

Anesthesiology or Oncology
