What more should I do?

I am a sophomore at one of the top public high schools in Connecticut, and I was wondering if anyone thought I had a shot at getting in. I'd like to go there for film, but I was hoping my academics met the criteria.

I have a 3.4 unweighted GPA, weighted it's 3.9, and thats from freshmen year. I take mostly all honors and AP classes, (IB isn't offered at my school however) and I was wondering if I need to bring it up.

I will most likely be taking all honors and AP in the next two years if I keep up my work, and I was wondering if I have to take on more, like extra classes or an independent study.

E.C: very active member in the Model UN club, Breast Cancer awareness club, China Care Club and Spectator (our school's literary magazine club, and am aspiring for leadership positions in all of them. I also have about 80 hours logged in at the local aquarium as I am a very active member in that. I play tennis mainly, but cannot get recruited for it most likely, and I swam for the high school last year. But I feel like it's not enough, do I need to start a club, or join more, those are the ones I'm most invested in.

I'm very interested in film and took a class over the summer and am applying to NYU Tisch School of the Arts' summer program for this summer. I know I don't have a lot to offer, so I'd like to know what I need to do to get in. My mother and my grandmother attended the business school so that should help, but I still would like to know what needs to be done.

You’re on the right track, and I would especially recommend you to do something - starting a club, attending a conference or a camp, or even a competition - for your passion in film.

As for MBA legacy, it won’t be much of a help since the undergraduate adcom only counts legacy from CC or SEAS. But you can certainly mention it on the application.

Keep up your score, class rigor, and ECs. I think you may have a shot in two years. Also look into different schools with prestigious art/film program like CMU, NYU, USC etc.

thank you so much- and I am looking at USC its just my family isn’t thrilled about how far it is, and NYU has no campus.

You will need to bring up your GPA in the next few years. Having a lower freshman year with a good trajectory of grades is fine.

Bring up your GPA, start a club (something to do with film), get more involved with film-related ECs, and get stellar act/sat scores.

Do something cool with film.
