What motels recommended 10-30 miles away from ND?

When visiting ND on a busy football weekend, graduation, etc. when all the good local rooms are high-priced and/or booked, what is a good motel within reasonable travelling distance that may still have rooms - say up to a half an hour away? Where do you like to stay in these circumstances? I'm looking for something along the lines of a Marriott or Hampden Inn type quality - even if not a national name. Thanks.

I don't know specifics, but I have heard that a lot of the alums go up to Niles, Michigan. It is about 8 miles north of ND. I have no idea what hotels they have up there though, sorry.

Try the michiwaka area (due East of ND). Thats where my parents stay without dropping an arm and leg. The drive is shorter than Niles and traffic coming from that direction is less than everywhere else.

I second, try Michiwaka first but it is getting more expensive. When my parents came out for BYU they had to pay an arm and a leg for Michiwaka. Just double check it with the prices in Niles, but Michiwaka would be more convenient; I agree.

Saint Mary's has its own hotel on campus - the Inn at Saint Mary's. You may want to try there, too.

True but that is almost impossible to get on big weekends like football or graduation, and if you get it, it is expensive :(. I just mention this because it looks like price is a factor.

Try southern mich. Just look on the internet, they're has to be plenty of stuff on that

We stayed in Plymouth, Indiana during our son's recent graduation weekend. It is about 25 miles south of Notre Dame and just west of the US 30/31 intersection. It was convenient and the motel reasonably-priced.

Maybe try some in the Goshan area as well; it's about a half hour outside of South Bend and has some hotels which are usually reasonably priced (Ramada Inn, Best Western).

Friends of ours stayed in Elkhart. Quite a few places just off the toll road (exit 92?) and quite easy to get into SB-ND using the Mishawalka exit coming in on SR 23.
