well, that's really low for an ivy. personally, all of the ivies i think would be a (pretty big to impossible) reach for you just so many canadians are applying to US ivies, you have huge competition, and ivies only accept a few-some international canadians. look in more realistic schools. you're sats are on the way low end of what they accept to. Everyone is president of something or other, but nearly all applicants have sat scores that are higher. So, again, look into more realistic schools.

what if I get good on my sat2s in Jan? maybe take the ACTs in february? or should i just forget it?

i know everyone is prez or somethign. but of a national charity on top of hte other stuff in school is something unique?? maybe not who knows.

i'm not looking for a sure thing just a reasonably chance (10% or more) would be sufficient for me to spend my money applying. I'll get into nearly every school in canada with my A+ average and supp so this is just reaches, going for us safeties would not make any sense.

hmm anyone know if ACTs are like the SATs? sortof similiar? I got screwed on basic questions like angles, primes and special triangles :@ and verbal I need to memorize those root words :P

is there any chance a sat place will let me retake it on sunday after taking sat2s on sat? collegeboard said no way :P

sorry to be rambling I got 1300 in the sample sat test in gr. 7 so I figured I'd get better by now :P

hehe, I'm doing the exact opposite (in US applying to toronto cause I got canadian citizenship). Anyways, one thing u gotta remember is even though ivy's have better reputation, they are almost three times more expensive...

First, I'm a little confused. Elitechance, are you thinking of applying for next fall or for the year after that? Because if it is for next fall, you're hitting it pretty close if you haven't yet taken the SAT, let alone the SAT II's. If you're looking at applying next year (for Fall 2006 start), then you need to keep in mind that the SAT is changing. The new SAT includes a writing section, drops analogies from the verbal section, and has some harder math. I'd suggest you get a copy of the College Board's "New SAT" study guide (you can order it from Amazon or from the College Board) and really start prepping if you are serious about pursuing top US universities.

Realistically, the top Ivies are long shots for anyone --- think of applying as buying a lottery ticket. No one can really predict your - or any person's - chances so you will have to decide if you are willing to buy the lottery ticket or not. Best of luck.

for next wall. yah i'm hitting it close. SAT is done but a pretty poor performacne of 1340. SATs will be in Jan. ACT in Feb. heh :S

Yah I know i'm pretty much screwed and i'm just paying to be sent a rejection letter but I'm hoping, hoping that the lottery ticket I buy is good enough for hte draw and not thrown out so to speak :)

From what I have seen no one has brought this up (if I missed it I am sorry), but for Canadians and all other international students, the Ivies are NOT need blind. So if you apply for financial aid it could hurt you. Yes, the Ivies are expensive, so if you need aid, you might want to apply to some non-ivy backups. I know Caltech has a lot of merit scholarships, and if you are looking for some math/sci stuff you should check it out. Caltech is as big as the Ivies for that kind of stuff.

As for the 1340 that is a bit on the low end. I know for some countries like in the Middle East they would allow for lower scores, but I don't think they look at Canada like that.

Finally, good luck to all. I got accepted to Columbia and my scores were not as good as guy who started the forum. From the looks of things if he's got the money he should have a good chance.

well I obviously realize if this was a gamble it's one that I will most likely lose. I'm not ignorant enough to think I will most likely get an acceptance. But I do want to give it a try if it's possible that I have some kind of reasaonble chance.

How come the forum starter has better chance than me? :S He said they'd be between "the 1300s to 1400s." I'm trying to remedify by getting a high SAT2 and ACT score but we'll see.

In Canada i'm virtually guaranteed to see admissions unless I really screw something up. They only look at top 6 courses (which must incl calc and eng+other prereqs). Anyone here could get into basically any Canadian univrsity I believe. Through they don't look at supps or SATs so people that are heavy on that might be hurt. So that'll be my "match" schools. I'm only planning on applying to those relaly reach schools in America. In Canada it is really different. The Arts and Science general program most people including me could get into at every university regardless of prestiege. They have a A or something cut off which isn't bad. But the specialized programs are a different matter where they are a little more selective but not to the degree of admissions in US. Through I think the US has a really great system and if I became Dean I would make things a little more hardcore, not to the point of legacy, developmental and minority tho.

Money is an intersting thing. They say they are "needs blind" for Canada and sometimes Mexico but not elsewhere so I duno. We'll see what actually happens under the table.

If I thoguht it was probably I'd get admissions I probably woud lhave taken a SAT prep course and the SATs like 4 times. :(

Sorry, I missed the between 1300 and part. If you want ivy you must study for the SAT IIs. That is key. After I studied for the writing test, my score went up 140 points. Since they are in specialized areas, they are tests of knowledge unlike the SAT I.

I was also unaware of the "need blind" to Canada thing. Now that I look at the application more clearly it does say they are "need blind" to you but not Mexico.

Well I wish you the best of luck, and it can't hurt to apply to one or two ivies, but due to app fees I wouldn't go for all eight.

yah. You know what's funny tho? The apps fees for the "money hungry" us are less than the ones for business programs here. I'm playing a $100 + $33 to apply to the Richard Ivey School of business in London, Ontario while The iveys charge me like $60 us lol.

also financial aid application for CDN unis? You can forget it . Even through they estimate studfent costs to be 35 thousand canadain years 3 and 4 unlike US they have no plans to help you in any significant way. So taht's interesting. I guess it's still a lot less costly than US and that's the rationale. PLus the fact that most schoalrships here are merit based on entering average grades so the really smart people would already have won some moeny we alos do have a wonderful student loan program, unforauntely that's only a loan :p

any other comments? I'm at the 97-98 percentile of my graduating class but I go to a public school so I duno if that means anyhting. getting ready to mail everything soon.

If I studied really hard and got 700-800 on SATIIs would that somewhat offset my poor SAT? notably in language?
