I had my Yale interview yesterday and my alum was the Dean of Academics at some hoity toity private school a few towns away. He told me he got into Yale early and only applied there and he has a son who is a Freshman at Yale this year. The interview went really well. We talked about the academic programs at school, my interests, economics, the atmosphere of college admissions these days, things we like to do in our free time. At the end he said he was really enjoying our conversation and sorry he had to leave to pick up his kids.

Then he said I don't want to sound like a downer but as you know only 2000 people are accepted out of a 20,000 applicant pool. And really there are probably 8 groups of completely different people who could be accepted. It's a matter of luck.

But then he said, "With that said, I'm going to go home and write you a really good letter for the admissions office. I can tell you're very bright, interesting, and motivated. I think you'd be a great asset to the Yale community. And I really do hope you get in."

But what he DOESNT know

is that I have a 3.5 unweighted GPA. And that I have no chance at Yale because of my GPA but I applied just for kicks.

I think the OP is just a little melancholy and venting that his interviewer thinks he'd be great for Yale, but he himself probably doesn't have the stats. Hopefully you have some really great other stuff going on in your app glassmenagerie! A spectacular essay or unique interest along with a stellar interview could help balance out your GPA. If not, it's still great that your interview went well. Those people skills are so important in life and you're a step ahead :)

yeah daxzzler understands why im lamenting. it is just kind of upsetting to hear that he thinks id be perfect for yale and that based on his interactions with me and my contributions to school/community etc that i should get in. i dont think i'll get in but that's ok i applied just to see what would happen. And plus i really enjoy college interviews. It gives me a chance to get to talk to really smart interesting people for an hour or so about lots of different things. It's always a win.

im totally snooping from the Brown Thread but i so think you have a chance, especially since i love your name! The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, interesting story indeed ! Good Luck! :)
