what name for IRS retrieval

<p>When I attempt to retrieve our tax information I am wondering what to use for the first name.. should I use my husband (although we file joint), should I use Mary or Mary J. on the first name line? When we filed, for me, the name used was Mary J. (I am not Mary, just using as example.) J. though is a middle initial which the form does not request.</p>

<p>Also someone said that IRS updates every week on Mondays, so it wouldn't do me any good to check on Thursday if my information was not available Monday? I need to wait until the following Monday?</p>

<p>I am not 100% sure how the retrieval link works in terms of names. I did work with some parents last year who had trouble linking, and we thought it was due to names. I would start with my own name, even if it is the second name on the return. I would enter is just as it is on my return.</p>

<p>You can check any time - it doesn’t hurt. You don’t have to submit the correction you started on the FAFSA if the link isn’t ready yet.</p>
