Gosh, things are lining up – deposits made, paperwork signed, housing assigned, orientation booked. Has me wondering, what’s next?
We are pretty much done also. D booked her room in Turner yesterday. DAAP orientation is 6/16 and 6/17. We will be making the long drive the weekend before to spend a little extra time in Cincinnati as a family. Our older D is head to UC Berkley in August, so this will be a final family trip before both D’s leave home.
ah…i was in your place last year. my dd just finished her freshman year as an ID DAAPer. now to start buying all the dorm room supplies, etc.
Thanks, @unc1957 and @daapmom – we’ll be at orientation on 6/16 and 6/17 as well. He took the math placement test yesterday, so I think we’re completely caught up.
@guyk27, she still needs to take the math placement test, but is waiting until senior exams are over at the end of this week. I assume your son is in the honors program, so y’all will be at that session on the morning of 6/16.
The math placement exam didn’t seem to take long – I think they suggest up to two hours, but he finished it in about 35 minutes. I think the test is “adaptive”, so initial questions set up where the test goes. His version, if you want to call it that, seemed to have lots of eval of algebraic questions. He did well, but on the other hand, I don’t know what’s considered a good score.
And yes – he’s in the honor’s program – he’s already assigned to Daniels, 11th floor.
@guyk27. My D chose a room in Turner. I assume her roommate and suite mates will be honors students.I guess they will find out roommate information in June or July.
My DD also assigned a room in Turner with an ID girl as roommate. Any idea about the Thanksgiving Break?
I’m going to book flight tickets for her. Does UC provide shuttle bus to CVG airport?
@CTIDparent – the UC website (on the transportation page) shows a shuttle that goes from campus to the airport, at various times. It looked like there was online signup, but it also looked like slots do fill up. So maybe booking early is a good thing?
@unc1957 – I’m not exactly sure how the process worked, but my son signed up, found out who his roommate will be, and they already contacted each other. Maybe because they both selected the same room? He figured out that his roommate is also in the honor’s program, and is a musician too (but not a CCM student). I’m not sure of the entirety of their contact. I think the guy is from near Youngstown, while we are from MA.
By the way, I thought he should go for Turner too – but he visited Daniels and decided he liked it – (and I guess he doesn’t mind older dorms – like ANCIENT dorms – Daniels was ancient when I attended :-).
I passed on the idea of staying overnight in dorms during orientation – I told him that I didn’t live in a UC dorm when I went to school there, and I wasn’t going to start now! He’ll be there, but I’ll be over at the Hampton Inn.
Haven’t seen housing assignments yet. How were you notified?
@guyk27 We always stay at the Hampton in when we’re visiting/dropping off/picking up our daughter. UC and the surrounding area is very hilly. The good news is that your walk from the Hampton, should you decide to walk is all downhill…the bad news, well, the walk back will definitely strengthen you calf muscles.
Thanks, @Balthezar – way back when, I had several different apartments in the area, two of which were on that side of campus. I can’t remember the addresses, but one was on Euclid Ave and the other near the corner of University Ave and Vine St. So I am – or at least was – well-acquainted with those hills :-).
@Ilikewilco – to my knowledge (and I’m not sure if this was just for honors or not) he was able to sign in sometime last week and select his housing assignment. That was all online –
About the housing, I have called several times and get a different answer every time. I’ve been told that assignments are based on how early you applied for housing, but I’ve been given different answers on when they begin making those assignments. Today I was told the first week of June. Last week I was told the end of June to mid-July, and the call before that I was told mid-June. My kid is in CCM and there are a few floors reserved in Siddall for those kids (not enough for all of the CCM freshman, though), and when I inquired about that on my first call, no one in the office was even aware of it. So, I guess we just wait and hope it all works out
Honors students get to select their rooms in one of the Honors Dorms. My D chose Turner and was able to select her room.
@guyk27 If your son can tell you how he figured out his roommate, please let me know. I will have my D followup. We are also staying at the Hampton for orientation. My D and I stayed there when she visited last summer and it is a great location even with the hill climb on the way back from campus.
@unc1957 – no problem. I’m working on it. But he doesn’t always respond to dad’s requests for information
@guyk27, Understood, My d is the same way.
@unc1957 – he gave me a short explanation. He said that when he was going through the online room selection process, there was a link to view his roommate. That’s how my son found out his roommate’s name. Then he found him on Facebook.
Thanks, @guyk27 .
