ugh as an NYU student, Take Back NYU is really annoying. This is not a legit protest, it’s a bunch of immature kids who resorted to tresspassing and assault to hold a bs protest…yeah, they took over the dining hall for a couple hours.

such a ridiculous protest…their demands are pathetic. free scholarships for students in Gaza? What? People all over the world in 3rd world countries are suffering, why Gaza? What about all the Americans who can’t afford college? and they demand a student be put on the Board of Trustees, they demand to know the salaries of NYU employees…

seems to me like most students don’t take this coalition seriously, or at least i’ve yet to meet one who does.

don’t leave college a virgin. unless you’re saving it for that special someone you’ll have random anonymous sex with in 20 yrs because you haven’t been able to date anyone consistently and are feeling desperate.

yeah; i’m on a listserv for students for a democratic society on my campus (went to a few meetings; hated the way they ran things) and they sent out a really excited press release about take back NYU.

i almost laughed out loud at some of the things on their laundry list of demands (especially the thing about the full scholarships for palestinian students). it’s really odd to me to go into a protest without a clear objective and instead just demand everything you can think of, regardless of feasibility, student interest or necessity…

Amnesty for all parties involved.

Full compensation for all employees whose jobs were disrupted during the course of the occupation.

Public release of NYU’s annual budget and endowment.

Allow student workers (including T.A.’s) to collectively bargain.

A fair labor contract for all NYU employees at home and abroad.

A Socially Responsible Finance Committee that will immediately investigate war profiteers and the lifting of the Coke ban.

Annual scholarships be provided for thirteen Palestinian students.

That the university donates all excess supplies and materials in an effort to rebuild the University of Gaza.

Tuition stabilization for all students, beginning with the class of 2012. Tuition rates for each successive year will not exceed the rate of inflation. The university shall meet 100% of government-calculated student financial need.

That student groups have priority when reserving space in the buildings owned or leased by New York University, including, and especially, the Kimmel Center.

That the general public have access to Bobst Library.

What they mean:

1 - Please don’t tell my dad
2 - Dont get mad at the janitor who we stole the keys from, he’s cool
…
4 - Grad students are proletariat too, maaaan
…
6 - f coca cola, f the corporations
7,8 - If I put these in here, this hot iranian girl said she’d go out to dinner with me
9 - Ridiculous, ill advised, and almost certainly unachievable tuition subsidies!
10,11 some poop about room reservations

LMAO that list actually made me laugh for like a minute, logicwarrior - thanks for posting! I just want to add, in case it isn’t already clear, that Take Back NYU represents a very small minority of NYU students. They’re like a joke on campus right now.

The Gaza part is so ridiculous it’s not even funny. Hmm, lets pick a random cause that’s been in the media for a while now - there are lotsa 3rd world countries, so why not Gaza? - and randomly send them free money! Oh yeah, and all those Americans who can’t afford NYU either, well, let’s not send them scholarships, lets just lower tuition! because we’re too stupid to understand how the university is run!

9, #2, and #3 are the only ones I want to happen. DEFINITELY not #11 - NYU already allows students from other colleges to come freely into Bobst, and the public is allowed on 1 floor for something - but the library should be a place for students! I don’t have a dorm and it’s one of the few places I can go to study in peace. Why not invite the general public into our dining halls and dorms as well?

The general public can’t use your libraries and dining halls? Weird. I guess it makes sense in New York though.

Anyway, 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8 are silly to the point of absolutely cheapening any credibility this thing might have had, while 5 and 9 are wishful thinking. 3 and 10 seem to make some sense but with all the other absolutely ■■■■■■■■ stuff in there I’m in disbelief that they thought this was a good idea. A classic case of “hey guys, let’s protest something.”
