Did anyone else hear "Harvard" and "Joey Cheek" pop up in the same sentence during the Closing Ceremonies? I would've thought the people on the boards would be all over this...anyway, what's your opinion?

(For those of you who didn't watch: Apparently Joey Cheek, the gold- and silver-medalist for speedskating, wants to go Ivy (he's 26), but was rejected, so they said, by Harvard. He's looking into other Ivies. On TV during the closing, the announcer (sorry, I forget his name) addressed a pointed statement to the Harvard Dean of Admissions saying, "Would it kill you to take another look at his application?")

FOR F's SAKE. Hes 26 and is applying to Harvard college. He's obviously just hunting for prestige. He was probably thinking: "hmmmm I have an Olympic gold medal, the only thing left for me to do is getting into Harvard and cure cancer"

that is not true. joey applied to harvard before he won gold and silver medal and before he donated his money to charity. he didn't use his olympic status to get into college. harvard just didn't see something in him back in the early decision round so its harvard's loss.

well who the heck told him to donate it... He only would've done it for one of two reasons:
1. Because his family is stinkin rich (legacy?) or
2. Because he wanted to get into Harvard

Ok even if he didn't donate it, and even assuming he gold-medals every single olympics from now on, he's making 25k every 4 years? He probably doesn't have any other job, and his sports career will end relatively soon. He probably wants a good education.
