Basically I will give a short explanation of my situation right now and hopefully someone has advice. I currently am a freshman at Penn State but looking to transfer to something smaller and closer to/in a city. However, towards the end of the semester I found out I have mono and also another illness was discovered which described why I had been tired and sick all semester. My doctors recommend that I take spring semester off so that leaves me with only one semester (15 credits) to put on college apps for Fall 2017.
As for my grades, they weren’t as strong as I wanted them to be due to the health issues I had all semester but nonetheless they are the grades I will have to report when applying (1 C, 1 A, 3 B). My high school GPA was around a 4.2 (I did IB) and my SAT/ACT scores are in the 1900/29 range.
Am I still able to transfer for Fall 2017? I still want a strong college with a good rep and hope I didn’t ruin my chances from this semester
Penn State has campuses that are somewhat close to Philly doesn’t it? I know the majors are limited but it’s worth looking into/talking to an advisor about.
@merc81 I probably had so many more options right out of high school but worried my semester grades will scare colleges off. Wht about somewhere like BC, Fordham? or Tulane, WF down south?
If you go with some of the smaller campuses like Penn State Abington the total enrollment is only around ~4k. Santa Clara University has ~9k. Do what you want of course, but I think it’s worth it to visit some of the other Penn State campuses perhaps it will make your life easier.
Many of those options will still be open to you @cc6298, though I can relate to how you feel. That said, you should readily be able to gain acceptance to a college with similar general academic standards to that of your current school:
Thank you! @merc81 . Will know more once final grades are in (Jan) and have time to do more research -most transfer apps are due in March. But that gives me hope and some relief that I still have solid options.
