Hey everyone ! This might seem like a stupid question, but what number of APs do you think would put someone in a good/competitive standing at somewhere like 1. HYPS, other ivies 2. U of California 3. USC, NYC, Vanderbilt, Villanova, other non-ivy, but good schools. Listen, I know other factors count as well like sports, ECs, but rigor of classes along with test scores are seen with the most consideration, right? Most competitive and crazy smart students at my school take 2 APs in soph year, 4 in Junior, and usually 4 or 5 in senior year (they get excellent grades in these classes, btw). Is this insane compared to other schools, or is simply what it takes to get into top-tier schools ? Please advise.

It probably depends on how well you do in the Ap as well...it wouldnt help to take 5 and get Cs in all of them. On a personal basis...it's probably as many as you can handle and get a good grade in would help the most for admission. But generally...I think that amount of AP is common to get into the top universities. Its just more and more competition nowadays so everyone is doing what they can. Tons of people self-study and end up w/ even more AP scores than that.

you are going to be evaluated based on what your school offers and how you have taken advantage of the opportunities. If your school offers 20 APs and you have only taken 2, you will be viewed differently from some one who attends a school that only offers 4 APs but has taken 3.
