Since so many people seem to get deferred SCEA, I was wondering how many of them get accepted later on?

See the posts by Descartesz for data from SCEA applicants who pledged here in past years:

Don’t know if Descartesz has any more data; and of course these are skewed polls of just CC members.

I’ve never seen a breakout of the admit rate for deferred candidates, and it wouldn’t be easy to interpret. It should be higher than the overall RD admit rate of just over 5%, since those in the deferred pool have already been certified as qualified applicants, and Yale says the SCEA pool is stronger than the regular pool. But for class of ’ 15, Yale deferred almost 3,000 students, more than half of the SCEA pool. Only 40% of them could get in if Yale took no one from the 25,000 RD applicants. Eyeballing the numbers, I’d guess the deferred get in at a rate of 6-7%, but it could be higher.

From the point of view of any individual applicant, it doesn’t make much difference if it’s 5% or 8%, since that doesn’t tell you anything about your own chances. But any way you look at it, it’s tough to get in RD.
