What on earth is a transcript????

I've noticed that some schools say that they want your "transcript" - which at my school is a piece of paper that pretty much has the date and what grade you're in! (ie: totally useless)! Also, some schools say that they want a record of your marks for the past 4 years - to my school that means "copies of my reports since grade 9!" We get 4 reports a year so that's a lot of paper and I'm not sure if it is even classified as a transcript!! And I have no idea how to get a teacher to attach so many documents in the Common App when there's only space for one attachment! So I'm plainly confused! What do I send my universities? What exactly does a trasnscript have on it? Every TERM mark you've ever gotten? Or only each YEARS mark? HELP! Thanks:)

A "transcript" in US high schools has your name, your grade, a list of all the courses you've taken at that school, the grades you received in those courses, and your GPA (and rank if your school ranks). The grades shown can include semester and final grades, or merely final grades. It's basically a summary of your academic career in that school.

It also needs to be "official" - certified by the school in some way to show that this is what the school has on record and it has not been altered.

Check with your school's administration to see if they have a summary of your classes and grades.

You need to make an appointment with the counselors at the EducationUSA office closest to you. They are the real experts on how to handle student records from your country when applying to schools in the US.

Educational Advising Centers ? EducationUSA

If you can't visit in person, you should at least talk with them by phone. They will know exactly what to do.

Wishing you all the best.

Are absences/lates and teacher comments, etc also shown in the transcripts? I didn't skip classes but I was lazy handing in absence notes and field trip forms..and they added up.

Thanks a lot:)

That depends on your school. Check with your guidance counselor for more information/a copy of your transcript.
