I usually avoid political debates like the plague on here, but this one has really gotten my dander up!

Exactly what was kerry thinking when he made his most recent comment about the lack of education and study habits landing one in the military over in Iraq! "study hard, be successful...don't, land up in Iraq..."

Has he gone totally insane??? What was he thinking???

You totally mistook the context of the speech. What was supposed to be said in the botched joke was "You know education, if you make the most of it, and you study hard, and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq.((LIKE PRESIDENT BUSH)))).

Stop trying to demagogue a botched line. If you really watched the speech or read the transcript, which you didn't, you read about how cowardly it was for Bush Jr. and Cheney to attack Kerry's record on the military when Bush fought the Vietnamese from, uh, Texas and Cheney deferred his way out of the draft several times.

Shame on you for even instigating this thread.

Hmmmm. . . how is that MF's number of posts is reset to 2?

Anyway, Z, once again, you are commended for stepping away from the keyboard. Botched joke or not, it was a dopey thing to say.
I continue to wonder how it is that, if we all are so smart and our politicians are so dumb, we are sitting at this keyboard and they are not?

Maybe because we don't have a thirst for power over others, or because we are willing to stand on our own with our beliefs, but are unwilling to sell ourselves and our beliefs for votes.

I honestly don't know the answer to your question, Bill, but I DO know that it's NOT because the politicians are BETTER than us.

Oh, I agree that they are not better than us.

I was at the National Gallery of Art two weeks ago; as is commone, when
looking at modern art, sombody made the comment along the lines of: "I could have done that." The implication being that anybody could have done the splashing of paint on a white canvas.

Son observed, correctly, that, yes, anybody could have done "that." The difference is that the artist DID do it. The artist starved and imagined and made his/her vision come to life. That's a step further than anybody else did.

The analogy applies: Most anybody could be a politician and make decisions as they do. The difference is that they DO it [for whatever their motivation is] and we don't. That's the extent of my observation. If you think you can do a better job [that would be a "you" in teh general sense not in a "Z" sense] then step up and do it. Quit trying to stir up the passions of a bunch of over-the-hill parents, wannabes, couldabeens, and whatnots. Kerry? Who knows "what he was thinking." Who cares?

In any event, my questions still stands: What's the motivation for posting these "insights."

Democratic Sen. John Kerry warned students in a campaign speech last night that if they don't study hard and get a good education they might "get stuck in Iraq."

The remark is being interpreted by many veterans including Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. as a slam at military service, suggesting it's a last refuge for the lazy and uneducated....

Last night Senator McCain appeared on Hannity & Colmes. Even though he was attacked by Alan Colmes, he wouldn't flinch in his demand for an apology from Senator Kerry.

In reference to the picture that Brandon's Mom posted....ROFLMAO!!!!!

As for John Kerry if he botched a joke he should apologize for what he said because what actually came out of his mouth was offensive to our military. He should show he has some integrity by saying that he is sorry he did not make clear what he really meant. I think if he did that, most people would move on to something else. By saying he wont apologize for what he said, it implies that he really did mean what came out of his mouth.

Heard the comment- in context.
Read the comment- in context.

Couldn't believe i heard what i heard and read what i read.
Botched joke? you gotta be kidding.
Foolish misstatement? you betcha.
Reason for posting? basically to see if "I" had missed something.
Apparently I haven't.
And you are correct- I could care less about what he has to say. Except this time, except about those brave enough to put a uniform on.
Shame on him.
