WASHINGTON — Senior Republicans say they believe Democratic Sen. John Kerry's "stuck in Iraq" blunder at the beginning of the week could help them come Election Day, even though Kerry has apologized for his "poorly worded joke" and disappeared from public view.

Republicans argue that Kerry has motivated many in the base, who had been demoralized for months of news about ethics scandals, violence in Iraq and growing Democratic confidence about the party's chances on Tuesday....

The Minnesota soldiers in Iraq who issued a hilariously misspelled smackdown to Sen. John Kerry were psyched yesterday as their witty response to his bungled "joke" about their education hit home in the United States.

"They're astounded by the reaction," said David Ward, whose daughter Heather was among the GIs holding the banner. "They were having fun with it." ...

NOW lets look at the speeches Bush f'ed up.

I am sorry but when your President (I didn't vote for him , he's not my President) and we can get into another discussion about the Supreme Court's 2000 hijacking of democracy, but Bush isn't exactly known for his free-flowing and effective speaking skills.

The MF missed these:

:D

"I am sorry but when your President (I didn't vote for him , he's not my President)"

This is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life, I even despise seeing the bumper stickers. Just b/c you didn't vote for him doesn't mean he's not your president. Until you move from the US and denounce your citizenship he is still YOUR president.

I didn't particularly care for President Clinton, but guess what, he was still MY president and I still gave him the respect he deserved in such a position. It is unfortunate that people can not give the same respect to the current president, you may not agree with his policies, but at least respect the position he holds.

---Tuesday will be interesting, but not as interesting as two years from now.

Its hard to respect him because he was illegitimate to the extent that Hayes was in the 1876 election. I leave this site here if you don't remember the 1876 election ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1876_election ). If you recall the 2000 election, the Supreme Court stepped in in the case Bush vs. Gore.
That was corrupt on 3 different points.

All the judges who voted in favor of Bush made a career on giving authority back to the states, and the precedent that has never been challenged is that elections are in the clear jurisdiction of states rights.
Funny you didn't hear any complaints about activist judges from the right back then.

Most recount studies have shown that if a recount had taken place Florida would have gone to Gore, thus giving him the presidency.

The judges who ruled in favor of Mr. Illegitimate even said this case could not be used as precedent and is only limited to present circumstances. I cannot completely elaborate on the significance of this, but would defer to Bill0510, a lawyer I believe, to explain the importance of this.

Ah yes, the Imperial Presidency. Recently I’ve had the pleasure of working with one of our preeminent historians who is frequently interviewed by CNN and the major networks about issues related to American history and the US Constitution. She has nothing good to say about the Imperial Presidency, and also considers awol bush an imposter.

"if a recount had taken place"??? Perhaps a brief review of history is in order.

Do you not agree that Hayes was a President, and thus entitled to respect as such? If so, why does the same logic not apply today?

usna09mom, which preeminent historian would that be?

Misterflyer, perhaps you, as a (former?) officer in the US armed forces, should be an example, and at least refer the the President of the United States by his name. Calling the current commander and chief "Mr. Illegitimate" just doesn't seem to fit the character an officer, even if you do dislike...make that rabbidly hate...him.

Don't you all have anything better to do? I guess not.
I don't question the legitimacy of the Presidency because the justices of the supreme court have ruled him to be the legitimate President. End of story.
It doesn't matter if I think they are wrong or not.
Our Constitution [remember? the one you swore to uphold] establishes "one supreme court." That supreme court ruled Bush to be the President. I believe that the members of the court are MUCH MORE INFORMED than you or anbyody else on this site regarding the application of precident to the facts before them. Its the same as any common case before a judge and jury: If you didn't sit through all the evidence, if you haven't researched all the issues, you are incorrect in second-guessing the verdict. Its somewhat similar to telling somebody that if they didn't vote, they can't complain.

The Court has made decisions that have just as equally been considered wrong by conservatives in their time. It's our system of government. Live with it or leave.

He is indeed, YOUR president. It is sad to hear somebody that claims to have graduated from an Academy disavow the Constitution in the way that you do. [I criticize you just as I would Z for some of the wreckless comments that he makes.] You should [although I doubt that you are] be ashamed.

Vote against Bush. Rally your acquaintances to vote against every Republican you can. [I have] Just don't vomit out such stupidity as has been written here. That's why you are being compared to C23; he/she just wrote vomit and never looked back. You are asked to establish your bona fides because it is too easy to jump on a website and make whatever claims you want. You may be a decorated war hero, a true patriot, a super-american . . . w/out some way of verifying this, then your writings are just as empty as the others who write herein.

Democrats [generally] will never get ahead until they start becoming more positive about what they would do to solve the country's problems. I hope that if they become the majority party in Congress, they initiate some changes and don't dwell on hearings over past transgressions. It's the same with mindless postings on a college website over a long-past election. Republicans have allowed the pendulum to swing too far; they have made false claims and made promises they couldn't keep. That's why they are in danger of losing the house.

I can't wait to see the results of tomorrow's election. One side of the other will be blustering about what the election meant. I love to see mindless blowhards bloviate about things. It's unfortunate that the country is the one that suffers. It is particularly unfortunate that 3,000 families have suffered for uncertain and likely undesired results.

Sorry Misterflyer and BZ, I missed your posts asking for sources-- income data was from all of the following: US bureau of the Census 2000 Summary file; Enlisted Accessions and January 2003-Sept. 2003 NPS Enlisted Accessions . Also the US Dept. of Defense and Office of the Undersecretary of Defense. Complied by the heritage foundation.

Thanks AFDAD - good stuff!

Let me explain my reasoning--in public, since that seems to be the preferred method.

I believed, appearantly incorrectly, that any accusation of this type would be better left to a private discussion. I assumed that this sort of thing would not be taken kindly and even apologized within my message. One piece of evidence would have been enough, then I would have apologized for my false assumption. I did not want to start another forum war over what may, or may not, have been a coincidence of opinions between misterflyer and C23. I was raised to solve problems at the lowest and most private level possible. It seemed that a private message would be better for this purpose.

Since you ask, my stats go something like this
-ACT 34
-GPA 3.95 uW, while taking the toughest classes offered at my school
-Top 5% of graduating class
-Eagle Scout (with numerous leadership possitions, including the top four scout possitions)
-Order of the Arrow
-Assistant Scoutmaster
-school radio club co-founder
-Varsity Tennis player
-Scholastic bowl varsity team captain
-WYSE member
-Church youth group and Habitat for Humanity volunteer
and some other odds and ends

My apologies to CCers for derailing this thread further.

Time to call the troll patrol and abort this bilge thread.

Trolls should feel more at home on the Dailykos threads.
