As you can see, I really want a single. I am under the impression that the top 2 or 3 choices are the only ones that matters, so I pretty much selected everything afterward randomly. I kind of want Furnald’s location (next to Lerner and Broadway) combined with the presence of freshman, dining hall, and JJ’s from John Jay. Guess you can’t have everything :P

yes....a Furnald single is the best housing you can get sophomore year but u have to get lucky as there is about a 1/13 chance really of getting it. As a freshman though, furnald may be really fancy and all but it is quite antisocial and you aren't surrounded by enough freshmen. Each floor only has approx. 10-15 freshman as opposed to 40-45 in JJ or Carmen so its harder to interact and make friends since usually u tend to interact alot with people on your floor freshman year. Also, being in furnald freshman year has no bearing on whether you will end up there sophmore year.

Hey, it looks like a lot of us put John Jay Single as our first choice (me too!). I really want to get it, but it looks like a popular choice. Does anyone know what the chances are like of getting it? How do they decide who does if more people request it than can be accomodated? It's pretty much a whole building of singles though, so I hope that means there's room for everyone!

John Jay has 400 singles and 29 doubles....freshman housing is assigned by lottery more or less. Don't worry, alot of people chose Carman as their first choice as well and some even chose LLC (!) in the end you should get nothing lower than your second or third choice.

Carman coed

Furnald double

John Jay's hallways were too narrow for me, and people I talked to in Furnald told me it was a bad idea to live there as a freshman. (No offense to those who picked it... it's just what I heard!) The LLC rooms I saw were pretty nice and it seems relaxed there. I think living in Carman would the most fun.

Don't worry: 75% of the campus gets their first choice, and about half of first-years have Carman as their #1. Most people who ask for Furnald will get it, and the ones who don't will probably end up in John Jay. JJ doubles are really really bad, by the way.

Ye I also chose Carman coed, Carman Single Sex and then LLC. How much better is JJ and Furnald then Carman. I heard there is a lot of partying in Carman, but it is not impossible to study, is it. Also, is it possible to switch housing after the fall term starts?
