^^don’t be so quick to disparage rankings, hilsa. Cornell offers a lot of things that Emory does not, and vice versa. That’s the beauty of a country with 3,000 colleges. :)

^^ not judging, but actually, the only valid reason to reneg on ED (according to others on CC) is if you end up attending your own in-state public…getting more $$ from a top private doesn’t cut it in terms of violating the ED contract…it’s a good thing that you didn’t; would have screwed up your HS for years to come…

Emory adcoms knew about me waiting on a school. We told them I sent my deposit late bc we were waiting so yea only way to back out of an ED agreement is if school doesn’t provide adequate money and I did apply to safety in state schools I didn’t think I needed to include them in schools I turned down. I did ed 2 so I heard back from Rochester gt by then so calm down guys. But yea they knew I didnt pull and that I waited the guy told me I was smart to consider my fiscal standing after graduation.

did your OTHER colleges know that you had been accepted ED? Did Cornell? If money was an issue, did you apply to Cornell’s CAS or the state-sponsored colleges (which are half-price of Emory for instaters)? If CAS, you had to know that there would be zero finaid. If accepted at one of Cornell’s contract colleges, then it had to be be cheaper than Emory, but yet you chose Emory…

Wow!!! I feel bad now about starting a thread, where people ends up arguing…I actually asked this question because I read somewhere in CC forum of Rice University that they had one going. I didn’t mean to start an argument.

So, any one else?? where else did you turn down?? Not much people has replied to my question.

Blue: I expected nothing from cornell and I told them and my remaining schools I was waiting on I was accepted. Case gave me 9 cuse gave me 22 and my in state gave me more or less a full ride. This wasn’t my idea I was set on going to emory as a sophmore. I have family that went there buy my mom insisted we wait she talked to adcoms before I did. There was no way I was going anywhere else I would have chosen emory over 15 k scholarship from cornell (no worries there). I know it looks bad but I had no choice and mother is stubborn but her and dad are paying so yea.
