what other awesome colleges you turned down to attend Emory??

We all know people usually apply to more than one college (for regular decisions of course).

So which colleges did you have to turn down for Emory??

Thanks for sharing!!

P.S. Personally, I applied Emory early so I didn't have to think more on deciding colleges when accepted.

Turned down cornell, Georgia institute of technology, case western, university of Rochester, and Syracuse

^^^nice, afitscher for taking other people’s spots…you were supposed to withdraw all your other applications when you were accepted ED…

I only applied to 5 schools.

I turned down FSU, GWU (full scholarship), and Wake Forest.

^^^Wow, I would probably never turn down Cornell for Emory unless serious monetary issues were involved.

Cornell is overrated. So many people in my class got into Cornell but waitlisted at other schools like Emory, Vandy, and Boston College.

^^don’t be so quick to disparage rankings, hilsa. Cornell offers a lot of things that Emory does not, and vice versa. That’s the beauty of a country with 3,000 colleges. :)

Fordham, Seattle U, Loyola University Chicago, Robert Morris University, SUNY Stony Brook

Cornell, Carleton, Missouri University of Science & Technology

I never pulled my apps bc of financial reasons so thanks rodney for the concern. Don’t be quick to judge

Plus emory is better than all the above in my book. My money from both cornell and emory was a fat zero where the others were generous

^^ not judging, but actually, the only valid reason to reneg on ED (according to others on CC) is if you end up attending your own in-state public…getting more $$ from a top private doesn’t cut it in terms of violating the ED contract…it’s a good thing that you didn’t; would have screwed up your HS for years to come…

Actually, afitsher DID violate the ED agreement. Even worse, Emory has an honor code…hopefully for him/her, Emory adcoms don’t check cc.

blue: yea, I thought so…but I don’t think Emory adcoms are on here…now, if it was Vandy, another story!!

Emory adcoms knew about me waiting on a school. We told them I sent my deposit late bc we were waiting so yea only way to back out of an ED agreement is if school doesn’t provide adequate money and I did apply to safety in state schools I didn’t think I needed to include them in schools I turned down. I did ed 2 so I heard back from Rochester gt by then so calm down guys. But yea they knew I didnt pull and that I waited the guy told me I was smart to consider my fiscal standing after graduation.

^He’s smart so stop the belittling you bunch of blokes (jk, I’m rereading Harry Potter- lame right?).

afit:

did your OTHER colleges know that you had been accepted ED? Did Cornell? If money was an issue, did you apply to Cornell’s CAS or the state-sponsored colleges (which are half-price of Emory for instaters)? If CAS, you had to know that there would be zero finaid. If accepted at one of Cornell’s contract colleges, then it had to be be cheaper than Emory, but yet you chose Emory…

Wow!!! I feel bad now about starting a thread, where people ends up arguing…I actually asked this question because I read somewhere in CC forum of Rice University that they had one going. I didn’t mean to start an argument.

So, any one else?? where else did you turn down?? Not much people has replied to my question.

Thanks to all who shared!! PEACE

Turned down Harvard, Vandy, Washington and Lee, Wake Forest, Carolina and William and Mary.

Blue: I expected nothing from cornell and I told them and my remaining schools I was waiting on I was accepted. Case gave me 9 cuse gave me 22 and my in state gave me more or less a full ride. This wasn’t my idea I was set on going to emory as a sophmore. I have family that went there buy my mom insisted we wait she talked to adcoms before I did. There was no way I was going anywhere else I would have chosen emory over 15 k scholarship from cornell (no worries there). I know it looks bad but I had no choice and mother is stubborn but her and dad are paying so yea.
