I was accepted into Penn State over a month ago..

Stats:
| 1460 SAT | 98/100 GPA | 2/47 Rank | Good Ec's, Recs, Essays |

I also applied to:
Notre Dame
Boston College
U Michigan
UNC Chapel Hill
U Miami

I was already deferred from UNC.. Does anyone feel like "resorting" to Penn St. would be just settling? Compared to their other college choices? Looking for some feedback here..

accepted to PSU but also applying to:
Case Western Reserve University
Harvard University (reach ;))
Northeastern University

I do think ill end up at PSU. I like all the schools on my list (why apply if you wouldnt be happy ending up at that school?), but PSU has a great engineering school and its cheaper for me cuz im in-state(i def need fin. aid) so theres a good chance Ill go to PSU, I certainly wouldnt hate that :)

I was planning on doing that but Since I got my Acceptance letter a couple Days before Thanksgiving, There really wasn't any need to because I had already gotten into my First Choice. AND I was kind of too lazy to try for like a Big name Ivy school. It would have been fun to try but I'd probably end up going to PSU anyway, so I didn't bother with that.

BTW,, So far I'm going to the Top-Ranked College out of anyone in my High School. boo-yaa"

Applied to:
U of Michigan (accepted, but I will never support their athletics when they play Penn State.)
Harvard (defered)
MIT
Duke
Johns Hopkins
Cornell
U of FL
Washington U in St. Louis
Princeton

My son applied to:
Cornell(ED)(Rejected)
PSU Accepted into Engineering
Syracuse
Notre Dame
Cal Poly
University of Cincinatti

He is planning on going to PSU (in state!!!). Have not heard from other schools yet. Even if he gets in others, he is almost sure that he wants to go to PSU.
Stats: 2030 GPA 3.8 EC's Boy Scout (Eagle), National Honor Art Society etc...

I applied to:
UNC (And of course, you and I share the same sentiment there. Deferrals really bite coming from your first choice.)
UVA (Waiting still...)
BU (Ditto UVA...)
UT - Austin (Auto-admit)
PSU (Accepted)

I think the whole idea of feeling like you "settled" would depend on your original reasons for applying to PSU. If you applied there as a safety, as one of those colleges that you'd attend if you didn't get in anywhere else, then yes, it would be settling. If not, then it could be as rewarding of a place to be as UNC. Maybe it doesn't have the prestige, but if you can be happy somewhere, then that's never "resorting to" or "settling" for anything. I personally applied to PSU because my dad is an alumnus and I adore the campus; for that reason, if that's where I end up, I'll have fun.

I applied to:
Penn State (Accepted)
Cornell
Binghamton (Accepted)
U of Maryland
Brandeis
U of Michigan (Accepted)

I'm probably going to michigan, but that's partially because it has the extra currics i want more than any other school. If Penn State has what you're interested in, it's not settling at all, it's a great school. If it doesn't, then wait it out and see where else u get in (which is annoying, but at least u know you're going somewhere).

For my son...
PSU-UP (Accepted)
Johnson and Wales (Accepted and $ offered)
University of Houston (accepted and $ offered)
UNLV (accpeted and $ expected)
Virginia Tech (will hear April 1)
Cornell (Hotel School starts Rolling Admission later this month)

Son applied to PSU (only two weeks ago so he hasn't heard yet) and also to

Columbia
Fordham LC
New School
NYU ED (rejected, but then promised acceptance as a transfer if grades steady...long story)
UMBC (in state, doesn't like the College Park campus)

Penn State - (decision made on 2/6/06 but waiting on my letter)
University of Pennsylvania (ED) - Denied
University of Illinois Urbana - Accepted
Northwestern University
Cornell University
UCLA
UC Berkeley
University of Michigan

I dont think I want to go to Penn state or UIUC, i'm looking more at Northwestern or UCLA/Berkeley
