I've seen this question posed numerous times on this bored without a concrete answer. Does anyone have one? Alexandre maybe?

bump??????????????????????

a very few amount. I had good stats for Michigan but i got deferred and then waitlisted.

I still hold a grudge against Mich!!!!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHH

what were your stats?

3.9 Weighted GPA (top public school in NJ)

2010 SAT. 600 verbal, 710 math, 700 writing. By no means exceptional, but decent scores.

I applied to LSA.

what about unweighted.

Isn't that what umich uses?

3.7 unweighted.

and i'm a minority too (Indian) so i should have got more points.

Indian doesnt count as an URM so AA won't give you an advantage if you're asian. (or indian)

That's so pathetic. Maybe i should have put Native American instead.

I think Proposition 2 which was just passed in the state of Michigan which bans affirmitive action. Does anyone know what effect this will have on the admissions process?

Somewhere I read nearly 50% of deferred applicants are accepted but that can't be true. Just pull all A's 1st semester of senior year and you are fine.

Hey, maybe this will make you feel better, my dad told me that one of his co-workers' son got in after being deferred with an ACT score of around 23-24.

Not even U-M knows what effect it will have on the admissions process. They're still figuring things out. They'll come up with a plan for compliance that will go into place after the vote is certified.

If the laws in CA and WA are anything to go by, no one will really know until the courts make some decisions. The Prop 2 wording is pretty loose, so various colleges and employers have little guidance as to what constitutes compliance. You're going to need some judges to weigh in on this, just as they have in other states.

i'm pretty sure only 20% of those deferred get accepted later. I know this guy from last year..CC Runner...he had great stats but got deferred. Only people like him get admitted after being deferred.

It won't take into affect for admissions until next year's class. So it will still exist for now in admissions.

If that's true, call the U and tell them, because right now they're working towards a Dec 22 implementation.

This is just what I heard from Mary sue coleman's speech...

it's not fair/logical to admit half the students on a certain standard and then change it for the other half. I'm pretty sure they'll keep it the same for this admissions cycle.

Mighty Nick is that so pathetic that Indian isn't an URM? Now you know how white people feel. Inidan is perfectly well-represented so quit belly aching because you didn't get in.

yea last i heard its going to be implemented on December 22nd... What would this mean if we applied before then?

So if I got deferred and my decision will likely be made after december 22nd, does that mean it will be made sans affirmative action. That's good news for us white and asian deferrals.
