What percent of top-tier applicants are competitive?

Alright so CC fam, I’m writing an essay for AP Lang on why a lot of accomplished and genius kids get rejected or deferred from top schools. I have a heavy interest in making this a cohesive thought that flows logically. Logic generally implies facts, however there are lots of unknowns in the college process and I’d want a CC input on an interesting one. Link me to any relevant articles out there as well. I will likely be using an estimate in my paper and I’ll actually be citing CC.

Question: what percent of students who apply to harvard/stanford/yale are academically qualified to be competitive? 99% of the time an applicant with a 26 ACT will be thrown out at these schools. But what percent do you estimate have the Scores/GPA to be competitive enough to be admitted?

Thank you! The more discussion there is the more things I have to put in my essay lol

From the CC Terms of Service:

Also, a thread was started on just this topic a week or so ago.

Not asking for homework help, more for discussion? I don’t think you understood at all what i was asking for.

tufts announced that 2/3 of last year’s applicants were determined to be ‘competitive’ applicants, even though around 17% were accepted.

Sorry, I missed it…but why are the top schools rejecting “genius” kids?

because they don’t have enuff room for all who apply
