This is just a question I wanted to ask on the site to get feedback, but at what percentage do you get a little bit of optimism for your chances of getting in.

For me, for a reach school 15-20% makes me optimistic.
For a backup school or match school, 70% makes me optimistic.

Well for reach schools, you never really know if they actually decide to pick you. Therefore, sometimes I don’t even contemplate about a certain percentage of getting in. For match school I think above 60% is good and backup maybe more like 80% lol.

Acceptance rates can be misleading. For some, There are different acceptance rates for individual schools and programs within the school and even for males and females.

What makes me pessimistic is the rock’s analytical skills.

Rocksupper: a percentage means nothing w/o context. If you have a 1.5GPA & 12 ACT you won’t be getting into a college with an 80% admit rate. If you have a 4.0GPA/36 ACT, you’ll get into multiple colleges with sub-20% admit rates.

It’s not about the admit rates – it’s about what YOU bring to the table. Consult Common Data Sets and see how you stand.
