Is it ok if I only spoke about the actual experience for about half the essay? The first half is like an intro, "I never knew that at a place like RSI, I could meet people who could have so much fun," and the second half talks about a pretty crazy experience.

dude if you made RSI you have nothing to worry about, I dont get those people.

Rickoids have to worry about Harvard and Stanford still. And Princeton sometimes.

I wrote about my campaign posters for ASB prez:
Bob Dole asking, "Have you asked your doctor about Ben Conway?" Warning. If election lasts over 4 hours contact a physician immediately.

and, Mike Tyson praising: "His genius is matched only by his charm, and I'm going to eat your children."

It gives a different feel than the chess essay.

I shouldve gone to RSI huh?

I wrote about the blues and how I love playing them (I play guitar)! Not as unique as you guys but whatever...

cool, i play guitar also ! gotta love that flattened 5th + minor pentatonic,

don't get me wrong i like my mioxlydian and dorian, but there aint nothin like the blues scale!

Yeah, I love the good old blues scale too! IMHO, the modes pale in comparison. But I tend to add notes from outside the scale so I often end up using the major/major pentatonic/dominant scale too.

Does it have to be ONLY the experience? I have some stuff before that sort of "tells" the reader what the experience means...

So do I! But mine was basically about how music gave me something to hang on to and stuff.

i just wrote about a goofy moment in taiwan when i didnt know what was going on (i dont speak chinese really). the story ended with jumping up and down in a mall to get a bathing suit.

hah, i thought it would be a nice ice-breaker for my "roommate."

what is RSI??

Research Science Institute.

Check out the high school forum.

I sort of wrote mine as a warning- I'm a bit of a slob.

RSI is a good summer program.

but its far inferior to SSP!!!!!!!!!! (The Summer Science Program) JK... ive only been to SSP so im obviously biased, but there have been people who went to both and they said they liked SSP better! We're smaller in population but not in recognition and coolness! ;) :)

I wrote about my experience at SSP for the first short essay.

SSP is bigger in recognition thatn RSI?

well i said "not smaller"... so its not necessarily larger, but equal.

actually though, id like to change "recognition" to "prestige", or just to say that i meant recognition by the admissions people, not by the general public.

In SSP '04, who are freshmen now, out of less than 70 graduates:

9 people attending MIT
5 at Harvard
4 at Yale
3 at Stanford
3 at Caltech
3 at Harvey Mudd
3 at UC Berkeley
2 at Columbia
2 at Pomona
2 at Princeton
2 at RPI
2 at USC
2 at Wellesley

thats 44, and the schools where only one person went rank very high as well.

For the class of '03 it was 5 at stanford and 5 at MIT... one of the things that motivated me to attend.

Keep in mind... those are attendances, not acceptances.

My experience was finishing a 27 mile hike with friends, and I talked about doing some outdoor sports in cali (my main athletic venture...yeah, I know) and the standard carpe diem stuff.

RSI is like 30 MIT 30 Harvard 10 Stanford/Princeton/Yale and the other 10-20 go to other schools...

LOL i had no idea. i withdraw my claim.

I had no idea RSI was only 100 people? are you bullsheeting?

I still think we have more fun! Plus the thing about the people who went to both and said SSP was better is true!
