what programs can you apply to multiple degrees?

Does anyone know if you can apply to both the BA and BFA at Emerson and Ithaca college? Could anyone provide a list of the schools in which you can apply to more than one theatre degree when applying.

I know that when my D was not accepted for the BFA program at Ithaca, the college contacted us asking if there were any other majors where D would like to “transfer” her application. I don’t know what that would mean within the theater department.

Pace allows and even encourages applying to both, as well as their Acting for TV/VO/Commercials major. Emerson did not - unless it’s changed. Both these schools had unique elements to their BA and BFA so you need to look into them to see what suits you.

I know that USC allows you to apply to both.

At James Madison students can apply to and audition for multiple programs.

Thank you! Any recommendations for BA or BFA programs at colleges/universities that also have a film school?

NYU, Depaul, Columbia Chicago, USC, UCLA

James Madison University… School of Theatre & Dance for Theatre and School of Media Arts and Design for Film.

The University of Miami has both a BA and a BFA in Theatre as well as a B.S. Degree in Motion Pictures that looks pretty interesting. I know it used to be possible (and perhaps still is) to audition for the BFA, not get in but be offered the BA track there instead. (That can happen at Emerson too BTW). What I don’t know is if at U Miami, or frankly for any schools mentioned above if one can for example, audition for the BFA and simultaneously also apply to the film school programs. I’m sure you cannot at UCLA and I’m close to positive you can’t at NYU either. So if that’s what you’re thinking @Mpartist, you better check that out or at least try to understand whether or not you can move from one program to the other once you’re in the school. Again, not always possible. Good luck!

At USC, you may list two majors (Schools) on your application, but you must put them in order. For film, you need to submit a very involved supplement. For BFA Theatre, you need to schedule an audition. If you are “admitted” to both majors by the individual Schools admissions, you will only hear about the first choice you listed when you get your official admissions notice from USC. It is possible, and even relatively common, for applicants who are admitted to USC’s BFA Theatre program, to change to BA even before they arrive as freshmen. It is impossible to switch from BA to BFA in Acting, I believe. For tech theatre and design, there may be more flexibility in that direction.
