My daughter only just now is considering Kenyon. I've kind of followed their program over the years; I was admitted but did not attend in the 60's. Besides English and writing what is Kenyon known for?

Thanks

English and writing LOL.

They only have 14 majors. These are their best two. I think they have good econ and history, as that is what I’m applying for, but they are far better known for what you listed.

Just by simply going on the Kenyon website one can see Kenyon has more than 14 majors. The number is closer to 30.

Kenyon has a lot of strong programs. I would include English, Political Science, History, Economics, Drama, and all the sciences.

14 majors? I’m pretty sure I can list more than that off the top of my head.
English is considered the strongest department. It has a national reputation associated with the Kenyon review and a number of well known authors who have attended or been professors at the school. I don’t think you’ll find a weak department, but there are some differences in size. Obviously, given the fact that Kenyon has 33 majors, there are a lot of departments that might have only 5 or 10 students graduating in a given year. English, history, economics, and sociology are the largest departments, but you’ll receive more attention from professors if you are one of a few students majoring in a less crowded department.

Anyway, back to your initial question…
Answer: swimming!

also drama and actors, Paul Newman for example.

I’ll also point out that writing is not a major as OHKID indicated. English majors take writing classes, but there is not a separate writing major.

Do any of you know much about the Integrated Program in Humane Studies? How is that supposed to be as a major?

Ya, it’s actually a concentration, which “is sort of kind of like” a minor with a different name. It’s a nice program, especially freshman year because if you do IPHS, you only have to take three classes.

[IPHS - Kenyon College](http://www.kenyon.edu/iphs.xml)

Hmmm…

I could swear that Kenyon was heralded as the “true liberal arts college”, only offering traditional majors, by the Fiske Guide. Its basis for this title was on Kenyon’s small number of majors, even for an LAC. I’m pretty sure this was from the 2008 guide, and had the Fiske name in the first place, but it is too late to fact-check now :)

The website does prove otherwise (I counted 34 majors, but it is late…).

any one have info (that couldn’t simply be found on the official site) about the drama program??

Kenyon has a very well-known Chinese department. The head runs the very prestigious Middlebury Summer Language Study program in Chinese. I plan on being an international studies major. Kenyon is also currently making astonishing efforts to enhance their science programs. I know a handful of freshmen premed majors who were promised thousands of dollars of research money when they agreed to come. The English major is still what Kenyon is known for, but I have found that the department and majors tend to think a bit too highly of themselves.
