I read for the umpteenth time a CC prospective student say that one of his/her top choices was "John" Hopkins. If you're connected to JHU and you're used to hearing the school mentioned, how often does this happen? Rarely? Occasionally? A quarter of the time? Half the time? I don't even have a claim to a JHU connection and it irritates me! :)

it doesn’t matter just ignore the ignorant people.

Even happens on some semi-official lists and rankings.
That just looks like some random guy’s blog. Doesn’t surprise me that he got the name wrong.

I hear it occasionally. Most people (even those unaffiliated with the school) know that there is an S in Johns. Once in awhile you’ll come across someone who says John Hopkins, but you get used to it.

When you get to Johns Hopkins, take a neuroscience course and find out why people fall back into the familar (“John”) rather than the actual “Johns”. All kidding aside, I live near Baltimore and even here there are many who screw it up.

Way too often. Approximately 10% of the e-mails sent to the main Admissions e-mail account spell the University name wrong. Dropping the “s” is the most often mistake. Second most popular is an apostrophe (John’s Hopkins). My favorite is either when someone drops both “s” (John Hopkin) or totally butchering the name (Jon Hopskins).
