What Public Policy Course to take for Freshman?

Hi, I'm a freshman who is unsure but interested in the public policy major. I was wondering what a good public policy class would be to take first semester freshman year? I know that PubPol 55D is the intro course, but it's already full :(. Is there any other PubPol course that would be suitable for me?

Stay on the waitlist and go to the first couple of classes. For big classes like that, the prof won’t mind letting extra people in.

Thanks Ketty! Are there any other suitable classes for a first-semester freshman interested in public policy besides PubPol 55D though? What about like the PubPol selected topics courses? Are those too tough?

Hey frenchhorngirl,

I’ve only taken one higher-level pubpol class myself (cross-listed with polsci), but I hear good things about the human rights courses. If you’re into education at all, try the Children, Schools and Society course- it comes with a service learning tutoring component as well, I think.

I know that PUBPOL 128 is also a requirement for the major and doesn’t need any pre-reqs. Does anyone know if PUBPOL 128 would be better to take first semester than PUBPOL 55D?
