What qualifies as a competitive scholarship?

I understand that if you receive a competitive scholarship of $1000 or more, you will be qualified for in-state tuition. What exactly qualifies as a competitive scholarship?

You have to compete with instate students is one of the major criteria. The scholarship will state whether or not it is eligible for a tuition waiver. You can also stack eligible scholarships to make up the $1000 threshold.

Thanks AGmomx2 - is there a way to find a list of these scholarships?

There isn’t a complete list as many of the scholarships do come from individual donors that are named for them. Some of the scholarships have a limited number of waivers ( my son got one of those his freshman year that came without a waiver, but he already had one from another scholarship- you only need one) Here’s the general listing https://scholarships.tamu.edu/FRESHMEN/Available-Scholarships

Thanks again - that was really helpful!
