@rdeng2614, Does your family own the home they’re currently living in? In another thread you said the homes were in different states, so if one of the homes your parents own is across town it seems like they have to be paying rent where you are now.
So your dad deducts the amount of rent they pay from the income they’re getting from the 2 homes they rent out? I’m not sure any college is going to give you need based aid so your family can own 2 homes. Why not sell one to pay your tuition?
@austinmshauri They are paying rent for where we are right now.
Yeah, he is thinking about selling the one in Detroit to pay for my tuition.
Can’t sell the other one here, or else I think I lose state residency.
You don’t have to own a home to have state residency. Many people aren’t homeowners. If your family lives in the home you own, most schools won’t use the value when calculating aid.
Have your parents given you a dollar amount they’ll pay? Your safest option is to find guaranteed merit schools that you can pay for with the merit + whatever your parents can give you. I wouldn’t bank on getting a lot of need based aid.
@austinmshauri Right now, some CSU’s seem like good financial safeties. I have talked to my parents and they don’t mind paying for them.
