Hi everyone,
I'm transferring from a school that runs on the quarter system and I know for sure that the UC's will look at Fall grades, but will they look at Winter quarter grades? I know they probably won't take into consideration Spring quarter grades. Winter quarter grades should be out 2-3 weeks after finals on 3/21. Thank you!

The UCs will look at whatever grades you put in the Transfer Academic Update by the 1/31 priority deadline.

Thank you Ms. Sun. I heard that there is a 2nd TAU at the end of the Winter quarter. Do they solely use this update to see if we have finished any important major pre-reqs and GEs?

There is only one TAU with a priority deadline of Jan. 31st. You are able to update the TAU until the end of March, I believe. However, after the priority deadline there is no guarantee that any updated information will be considered during the evaluation of your application.

One added note that I think hasn’t been mentioned, your UC transferable GPA that they evaluate will only be calculated from your grades up until that Fall semester before you transfer, whether or not you submit your winter grades before or after the Jan 31st TAU deadline. So while the UCs may “see” your winter grades, the most that it will factor into your admission is just as an assurance that there’s a definitive grade for those planned/in progress courses you may have listed after Fall.

I see, thanks everyone for the help I was confused as to whether or not they will use those grades in the admissions process because I might get a lower GPA due to some hard classes I am taking this quarter

There is debate as to whether ONLY fall grades are calculated into the GPA. I think in most cases the TAU priority deadline does not allow enough time for students to enter any final winter grades; but from what I’ve heard, ANY final grades entered into the TAU by the priority deadline are calculated into the GPA.

Students may update the TAU with any schedule changes until the end of March. The UCs have the option to pull the updates from TAU but there is no guarantee that they will.

I’m on quarter’s too. I know there’s no guarantee they’ll look at it, but I’m more concerned to know if there’s any real chance they will. If we update our grades on say, April 5th or 6th, will they simply not look at them at all? Or is it just up to their discretion? I mean, some UCs may have already gotten back to us by then, so it seems strange that only some schools from the same system could factor it in…
