What r my chances??

I may have high hopes but idk...would love to know my chances of being admitted to Duke realistically!!!
Unweighted gpa = 3.97
weighted gpa = 4.48
13 ap and honors courses all 3 or higher
ACT SCORE = 29
Class president
President for health club and Spanish club
Jv and varsity soccer
Jv and Varsity track
National AAU gymnastics champion
I'm also involved in Eco freco club, French club, national honors society, art club, yearbook, and student council ....also I have over 275 service hours :)

I think you have a good chance. You are very involved in school ( Class Prez… thats good ish right there) and your GPA is good. maybe do well on SATs or retake the ACT but you DEFINITELY have a chance.

With only a 29 on the ACT with no SAT II scores, there’s almost no chance you’ll be accepted into Duke. Aren’t two SAT IIs required for applying in the first place?

^^ You have got to be kidding me. Standardized test scores are NOT the be all end all of college admissions. Sure, you would benefit from improved test scores, but with your current stats you have a GREAT chance of getting in as long as you write a good essay and get good recs. And you don’t need the SAT II if you submit the ACT, but it won’t hurt if you do well on them.

See, the problem is, everyone thinks “Oh I’m bad at taking tests so I’ll do well in all my other areas to show how wonderful I am!” They fail to realize that there are already more than enough students who are phenomenal at taking tests and still do well in other areas. Having solid standardized scores are a basic, you really shouldn’t have high hopes if you can’t score well. And you’re right, it definitely is not the “be all end all,” there are other ways, such as mind-blowing essays, curing cancer, being an Olympic athlete, etc. But it’s really important to be realistic. The only people who you ever see accepted into college with low standardized scores are either URMs or true exceptions.

Also, I just checked, you’re right. You don’t need SAT IIs if you took the ACT.

I would aim for 31+ on the ACT for realistic chances (if you are unhooked).

Standardized testing is the most objective part of any application and therefore it is the most important. The difficulty of high schools varies greatly. Pretty much all other countries other than the US base admissions solely on test scores. So basically, work on getting that ACT score up and you have a really good shot. If not, I don’t think you have any chance at all, unless you’re a URM.

Duke does accept 25% of students with an ACT lower than 31. They do want a diverse group of students and not everyone has to be an academic rock star. You have a chance to get in with a 29 ACT. They look at the whole you and what other areas you may stand out in.

First of all, you are good candidate to any top schools. How can the weighted gpa 4.48 if you are taking 13 APs? May be your school have different grading policy, the transcript itself will tell all. Do you think your standard testing align with your transcript? If not, definitely take it again. If your school profile shows you are strong on academic side (course load and grades), one test wouldn’t hurt you a lot. School needs strong EC, leadership, etc, but overall they need to make sure you will be fine academically.
