What Really Makes You Want to Go to a School?

I am still sort of puzzled what makes people want to go to a certain school. I know cities can have certain effects on people. But other than Columbia I haven't really fallen in love with a school. I feel kind of weird since I've visited 7 schools already. I havent looked at NYU yet though so there could be hope. I am worried because my only dream school is very hard to get into and idk want to end up going somewhere I am indifferent about.

So what makes you really like a school? Examples would help. Thanks

Campus feel. The people that go there.

Some people don't click with schools right away, though. There's nothing wrong with that.

The academic atmosphere and the people there (this is very important to me. I don't want to spend 4 years with people I don't like), which also includes the professors.

Exactly. The atmosphere and people.

It's different for everyone.

Here is my criteria:
1) Bike use is common
2) Beautiful campus/dorm room
3) Strong sociology program
4) Limited distribution reqs
5) Urban or within biking distance of a nice town
6) Overall excellent academics

brand hit it.

i created a list based on some general measurable criteria and then visited to get a feel only for the atmosphere and the people. happened to fall in love with three (all very similar) out of the final prospectives and then made an incredibly tough decision.

thanks a lot, appreciate it.

Chicago is similar to Columbia. NYU is nothing like Columbia, much less of a real campus.
