So, I took the SAT for the second time in March and I got a 1470. I would like to take the test again to get a 1500 however I’m having a problem scheduling the SAT and the subject tests. I took the biology SAT subject test in January after self studying and I only got a 640. I want to get a 750+ so I was planning to take the test again in August. My problem is, there’s only about three weeks until the June SAT and I’m not sure if that’s enough time to raise my score to a 1500. But if I decide to take the SAT in August I’d have to take the Bio SAT in June and again, not sure if 3 weeks is enough to learn everything. I don’t want to take any tests in senior year (October) because I’m planning on applying early to colleges. So, my question is, should I take the regular SAT in June and the Bio SAT in August or should I do it the other way around? If I take the SAT in June, is it feasible to raise my score 30 points or am I just wasting my time? Sorry if this got a bit lengthy, I’m really having a tough time deciding what I should do. Thank you to anyone who responds.
Have you taken an in-depth biology class or AP Bio before? If so, bio prep shouldn’t take too long. Barron’s is good for practice tests and gives good info on most topics, and I used Kaplan as a supplement. I took the Bio SAT yesterday, and I only started really studying a month ago – but then, I did learn most of the material in class (regular, not AP). I found that the material that generally isn’t covered in class – like phyla and the human systems – can only be studied through rote memorization, and a month was basically enough for that. Your SAT score is already pretty close to a 1500, though, and if you study a lot over the next month, I think that raising your score 30 points is feasible. Have you pinpointed what you need work on from your results in March?
Unfortunately, while I love bio I haven’t taken it since freshman year when I had honors biology. I’m taking AP bio next year but yeah, everything I do for the subject test will have to be self studied. I haven’t pinpointed my weaknesses yet because I’ve been studying for AP exams but after Wednesday I’ll be able to devote all my time to studying. Since I haven’t taken Bio in a while would you recommend taking the test in August so I have more time to prepare? It’s a tough decision for me because I know the SAT is more important than the subject tests but then again I’m so close to a 1500…
A 1500 the third time around isn’t going to be some magic ticket (unless of course you’re applying to some school with auto admit criteria)
I would recommend that, yes. Your SAT score is already pretty good.
@iwannabe_Brown I’m not quite sure what you mean? That the subject test is more important?
@spelledwithak Thanks for your advice, that’s what I’m probably going to do.
