In 2016, Lynchburg College had a 64% acceptance rate. Now called the University of Lynchburg, the most recent class had an acceptance rate of 97% (basically open admissions). Does anyone know what happened?
Lynchburg was our very first college visit back in 2015. They were organized, efficient, and enthusiastic. They provided great info (I knew what questions to ask at the other schools we visited!) The campus is very pretty. We had a great visit.
My second child (in middle school at the time) really liked it. We revisited when it was time for kid #2 to look at schools.
For a bit, it was at the top of the list. But kid ultimately took it off the list because their stats were considerably higher than the school’s of avg 3.2 GPA and 23 ACT. (And the 4-year grad rate was only like 54%).
It seems like Lynchburg has invested heavily - a beautiful student center in 2014-ish. And a news honors residential building that was supposed to be completed for this academic year.
So the 97% acceptance…maybe applications down? Maybe they need to pay for the new building, the new-ish strategic plan, and/or name change?
Private LAC in a state with excellent, reasonably priced state schools. The small LAC is struggling anyways other than the top schools.
I also think that-the popularity of Liberty has really affected this school. Liberty has the name recognition (lately not for most savory things)
