The Navy will begin wear tests this fall for three proposed new uniforms: a “throwback” service dress khaki uniform, along with crackerjacks that feature more sailor-friendly fabrics and a tailored fit, Navy Times has learned.

The prototypes, approved by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Mullen in March, could hit the fleet by September.

In addition, officials are hopeful that Mullen will soon give the final nod to a Navy-wide PT uniform....

In the spirit of Morale & Welfare, my mid would like to see Armani design all of the uniforms, except the formal mess dress which Vera Wang could work her magic with! Natural fibers only and the O-coat would be a luxurious cashmere/wool (for practicality) blend. Burberry could jazz up that shapeless raincoat (UK is part of the coalition after all!) Gloves might be nappa calf and the white scarf preferably cashmere so it would actually keep them warm in cold weather. Shoes should be durable and comfortable, Ferragamo or Cole Haan. Oh, I almost forgot purses for the females. Many of the gals have found simple Dooney & Burke and Coach purses that work with the SDBs and summer white. And girls, the sky is the limit with underwear after plebe summer! :) :) :)

I wish they'd brought back the dress khakis while I was in. I always loved that uniform. :(

It’s blue and gold for the Navy’s proposed new PT uniform.

Navy Times got a first glimpse at the new fitness duds during a presentation at the Navy Counselor’s Annual Symposium in Dallas on Thursday morning....
