What’s the deal with Conservatives?

They’re so lame.

when I read the thread title, I thought you were going to start some kind of heated argument. But when I read the post, I realized that you were just bored. I had decided not to post, but then I said to myself "why not just post something; you're already here" so that's what I did.

oh, and, I think people should try to be mederately conservative btw.

I'm not conservative, but why do you think they're lame?

Their ideology

It's a different way of thought, and while I find labels to be somewhat useless in the long run, I'd consider myself more liberal than conservative. Still, I am glad there are conservatives and believe they are an important part of our society.

As a side note, I think it's useless to say conservatives are "lame." There are many extreme liberals with whom I would strongly disagree and whose ideology I'd refer to as lame, but that doesn't mean all liberals are lame. I wouldn't make such a blanket statement.

Nope, they’re pretty much lame.

What's the deal with trolls?

what's the deal with neverborn?

(just joshin)

conservative as in what? specify please.

conservatives are just good hearted Americans who care for their country. they think liberals are just ruining the country. and who wouldn't agree? the more liberal this nation gets, the more stereotypical, aritifical and tasteless this country becomes.

put it this way: are you going to be 'liberal' in raising your kids? i will not, as they will be learning moral values and proper etiquette in my household.

Even though I identify more with the liberal side of the spectrum, I don't really mind conservatives. I think our country needs them actually to keep functioning as a democratic society, if only to promote healthy discussion. No hardcore right-wing people though. They are really scary people.

psycho: I'm not that scary...

Yo ballla

Why is it that conservatism has such a close tie to "Moral Values" in popular thought? When in fact the more recent headlines such as the K street project, Abramoff and Tom Delay all point to that fact that being conservative does not mean you are morally superior. This is why all the dems went around talking about the "culture of corruption" which has at least shed a little light on the morally befuddled the Republican Party.

Put it this way: The Conservatives/ Republicans have a niche in American politics as being the party of Moral Values. Yet, the conservatives cannot substantiate their moral supremacy in any thing but their own assertions. Please rethink conservatives place in principled society.

I consider myself conservative and I've never bought the morality argument from either party. So, why am I lame again?

Hell, I'm not religious at all and am a hedonistic heathen. So...am I lame?

Here are the definitions of liberal and conservative from merriam webster online dictionary

conservative: tending or disposed to maintain existing views, conditions, or institutions

liberal : of, favoring, or based upon the principles of liberalism b capitalized : of or constituting a political party advocating or associated with the principles of political liberalism; especially : of or constituting a political party in the United Kingdom associated with ideals of individual especially economic freedom, greater individual participation in government, and constitutional, political, and administrative reforms designed to secure these objectives

The Conservatives have hijacked the word 'liberal' and turned it into a kind of swear word that they associate with all the things that are wrong in today's society. There used to be liberal Republicans like Abraham Lincoln, but no more. They have also hijacked the word 'patriotic' and redefined it to mean, basically, Republican and conformist.

"Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains." -- Winston S. Churchill

I guess that makes me a heartless bastard. ;)

i live pretty conservatively myself but i'd never ever call myself a conservative because people should be able to live and believe how they wish

agree tommister

Mallomar: Real conservatives are 100% about individual rights and liberty, and believe people should be able to live and believe how they wish.

How would you define a "real conservative"? When I think of real conservatives I think of Bush, Cheney, etc. Am I wrong?

neverborn is right. but as of recent (the past quarter century) the paradigm has shifted and now conservatives mean the opposite.
