What’s the longest you’ve driven a car?

Asked my regular mechanic if he knew anyone who could make the seats more comfortable and he suggested the auto reupholstery place that does quick and good work. My big concern was that powerseats work properly after the job was done and they did! Much more comfy without cracked leather (especially when you’re wearing shorts—ouch).

LOL long road trip drives with my husband meant 10-12 hours of driving per day with as few stops as possible. Long road trips with my son meant 8-10 hours per day with as many rest stops as I wanted. Guess which I preferred!

I still remember a road trip I took in my early 20s. My friend had a manual 5 speed (I was NOT very good with manual cars). We drove through the national parks in SW. I had no idea where we were going and was expected to drive long stretches and navigate. Had never driven while navigating unfamiliar roads. Everyone else in car slept. It was pretty nerve wracking. This was in 1982, before gps and navigating via smart phone.

We have a black 2011 Prius with 235K miles that lost AC 2 years ago so it became our winter car. This worked fine until DS wanted a car at his uni for an off-campus EC he likes to do.
It is not cheap to replace the AC on a prius apparently and I checked the battery life and it will not last too much longer per the test, so I hate to spend the money. It is a shame on the Prius as it is still getting 55 mpg and other than the bad AC is a great little car. Plan to drive it til it stops but hard to put many miles on it in the NC heat and humidity.

We were all making new year resolutions a month ago and as I was basically doing a cut and paste from last year, I suggested we put teeth into making our resolutions. Any of us that does not accomplish at least half of our resolutions this year, gets the Prius next year as their main car…anybody that accomplishes 80 percent or better of their goals gets their chosen carrot…it sounded good at the time but as the temps are rising it is concerning.

19 10/12 years: a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. It became a total embarrassment to our three kids but I told them it was helping to pay for their college expenses.

Our daughter came home in it following her hospital birth. She didn’t appreciate my suggestion that we go full-circle by dropping her and her stuff off in it on her college move-in day.

It finally died on a city street, with me having to push it into a Burger King parking lot. This happened during her sophomore Thanksgiving break, with her helping me move the third-row seats back into it from the garage before the tow truck hauled this historic van off to the local scrap yard.

I’m glad to say that my example of thrift has rubbed off on all three kids – worth the expense of college. Two are now in medical school, with both working hard to limit their student loan amounts.

It will build character if he drives it w/o AC. I’m in NC, too, and drove a car w/o AC for years when I was young and too cheap to pay for it. Just roll the windows down. He won’t die, but he will get sweaty and thirsty.

I am not nearly as worried about him not doing half of his resolutions as I am about me not getting half and winding up with the Prius…but i agree, in the grand scheme of things we can all survive it and it will build character. Hopefully the stick works and we all achieve our goals… ))

My sister gave her old car with 280K miles, engine was rebuilt, not sure how old the car was but that’s the car my first kid learned how to drive in. It had very slow response, not as sensitive as my car at the time, but she drove that car at age 16 locally.
She’s excellent driver now, not sure that kind of car made the difference.
