How much would you want to earn once you've established your career? And if money is not a concern, what kind of lifestyle would you want to live with the career you have in mind?

I don't spend much. First, I'll pay off my student loans within 3 years, at most. Even if I did have a humongous pay check, I'd still end up in an average home driving a fuel efficient car. I'll still probably buy clothes from the thrift store because I LOVE bargains (except for work suits... I may spend a little money on those, but not too much). Shop at that cool store, Aldi, where everything is hella cheap and offbrand. And, I'll probably still have the same damn gift cards in my wallet that I have now since I never spend them... LOL

Damn, I'm cheap.

I think you're smart not cheap.

I would be extremely pleased w/ any salary 75000/year plus...this is of course after many years of work though...if i got a starting salary in that range i would be ecstatic...

Starting salaries of $75000+ would be satisfying for me as well. Of course, a six-digit salary would be even better. =)

$250,000 after five years of working...here I come, McKinsey. Actually I probably would not want in to that sector of business. But the high salary would be nice-I could buy a large house, and travel around the world (again); my grandfather saved up for twenty years and bought himself a large yacht with said salary, so that I shall do as well.

I have strong guilt associated with having money, and would really prefer not to have more than I need when I'm older. I'm not sure just how much that'd be, but certainly much less than you'd make as a lawyer/doctor/businessperson. That kind of career doesn't interest me anyhow.

I would be happy with 100k.
But I know that once I reach 100k, I'll want 200k, then 300k, then 400k, then 500k...

I would definetly hire a cleaning lady because I'm pretty sure my lifestyle will be hectic. And a cooking lady because I hate cooking.. I just like my food on the table when I get home.... none of that fresh vege cooking stuff.

I'm one of those, buy-only-what-you-need kind of person. If I was loaded with money, I wouldnt go buy something stupid like that g-unit ice cube tray that costs couple of thou.. some guy on mtv cribs had that haha loser

Well, you could also nail a wealthy Korean male while you were at it...or do you think it's best if one is rich to not marry and stay single?

I would be quite pleased with $150,000 a year. In this manner, I will have a comfortable lifestyle.

Um, I'd be fine with 40K. Anything above 70K would be great though.

I would be very happy with 75K.

$1,000,000,000.

We can dream big right?

You might get there with you computing skills...just develop a computer that displays in 3D space and is cheap as well as interactive (like those in the movie Paycheck).

you guys are disregarding inflationary pressures
$9999999999999999999999999999999.99

This is the United States, not Turkmenistan. Then I could see that type of salary being offered, but only to President Nazarbaev.

Haha, I'm pretty sure the US Government will pay BIG $$$ to anyone who invents AI. I'm also pretty sure that AI will be discovered in a big university with anal rules about profitting from research.

999 zillion

I am sure that AI will not be found in the US but either in India, China, or Britain, all places with far more lax research diffusion and profit laws.

Hmmm... I'm not so sure about that.
A) Most of the best CS/AI labs in the world are right here in the US of A.
B) AI is a kill word. Sell a decent idea to the military, and you can bet you hat bush will chuck a couple billion dollars your way.
C) Most of the important medical scanning technologies for the human brain are located here in US of A.
