I'm also trying to do some programming this summer, so I can get a portfolio to show them.

Major: Computer Science

In general, what should I do from here out to get in?

What ethnicity are you? Because that plays a large part. If you’re an URM that’ll help a lot.

Here are CMU’s SAT averages for each college:

[Carnegie Mellon Admission | Admission Statistics](http://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/undergraduate-admission-statistics)

As you can see, SCS is ridiculously competitive. You’ll probably need above a 2300 in SAT. SCS is difficult to get in even for the most stellar applicants, so if you’re really serious about just getting in to CMU I would apply to other colleges as well (you can apply up to 3). If you’re interested, maybe CIT’s Electrical and Computer Engineering will suit you; if not maybe something in the Dietrich College of Humanities or Mellon College of Science will suit you.

To answer your questions here’s what I would do:

1) Improve your SAT score massively
2) WRITE YOUR ESSAYS DURING SUMMER (Honestly, this helps so much). Have a viable person read it for you for suggestions.
3) Buff up your resume -right now you’re good, but you’re not really “outstanding” so to speak. Do something unusual. For example I have a friend doing helping out with a CMU professor’s research this summer (i think it has something to do with robots? I can’t remember).
4) If you’re serious, then do early decision (there’s ED 1 and then 2, but CMU’s ED 2 is a bit deceptive because it’s due date is December 1, which is still when most school’s ED 1 results have not been released yet)

Good luck!

I’m Asian lol, and I am aiming for 2300+ on the SAT in October. I’m also expanding my experience with software development, so maybe I could show them a portfolio of my programs. I’m not really that concerned if I don’t get in, however, because I have Georgia Tech instate.

EDIT: Didn’t notice I already put the programming stuff in the original post.
