SAT IIs are not the most important factor in college admissions. Taking a certain number will not raise your chances significantly; they may help a little. For most colleges, SAT IIs come after the big things like essays, transcript, etc.

UVa strongly recommends you take 2. If you are comfortably fluent in a language, take the SAT II for that. As jask said, it’s used more for placement purposes than admissions.

If you are not good at math or if it’s not your strong suit, don’t take the Math II. Your score will reflect your ability.

If you have taken an AP class in a certain subject and are comfortable with the material, you may want to take the Subject test for that. Example: I took AP Chem and so I felt comfortable taking the SAT II Chem subject test. I thought it was a breeze. But, a friend in my AP Chem class took the subject test as well and thought it was hard as dung. So, the moral of the story is, take the SAT IIs for the subjects you are most comfortable in. Your scores will be higher. Just keep in mind that SAT II scores are used mre for placement.
