i want a free-thinking liberal arts school not located in Pennsylvania (philly would be ok maybe?). id like a school with under 4,000 students that either has really bueatiful scenery in a small town or a large city (in other words, not the suburbs) id like a laid back social scene (not a party school, but people who like to have fun, even if thats just hanging out with friends)
im interested in international studies, specifically third world studies, as well as anthropology and philosophy.
regardless of stats, which of these seem to fit what im looking for, and what others might you add?
also, im intending to study abroad senior year of high school... which of these/others would be receptive to that sort of thing?

Seconding the above suggestion of Pomona (not seconding Claremont McKenna, however), and adding Scripps to the list (another Claremont College: www.claremont.edu). Claremont has everything you're looking for except that I'm not sure how it fits into the geographic preference. It's not at all what I think of when I think of suburbia...the town itself has a small town feel, but it's surrounded by NOT small town areas. It's a city outside of LA. I'm kind of the same way in that I love small towns and I love cities, but don't have a ton of draw to the in-between (too much of it in the last 20 years) and Claremont has been a good choice for 4 years. Scripps as well as Pomona (perhaps slightly less so, depending on who you ask) is incredibly scenic/picturesque, but again...surrounding area, not my favorite. If the SCHOOLS interest you, I'd really advise visiting b/c the city itself is hard to describe. A weird town-y haven in LA's inland empire.

Good luck...the rest of your list, from what I know, looks great!
