Do I pick General Engineering for majors on the application since it's in the engineering school? Very misleading.

yes

Wow, that means I’ll have to bring my A game for this app. I figured Comp Sci was easier to get into than the engineering majors. This and GMU were my only safeties

Unfortunately, no. It is part of Engineering. Rare to hear of someone calling VT a safety school. You must have an outstanding GPA / standardized test scores / rigorous class schedule. Wishing you the best.

We consider it a safety for D1 (3.8 UW, all-H/AP, 2250+, IS).

VT is bigger than UVA and W&M combined, remember. It is not only easier to get into, VT has MANY more seats to fill, and only a small portion of IS students choose it when also offered admission to one of the other two top public schools here.

OP: yes, CS is in the college of engineering, so you must apply to the college of engineering.

You can also major in Business Information Technology in the Pamplin College of Business. Take a look:

Good luck!

Well, it WAS an in-the-bag safety for me (VA resident, 4.2 weighted, 760 CR 700 M SATS, 780 Math II 730 Physics subject tests, mediocre ECs though). Now that I hear I’m applying for the college of engineering, it just went from a safety to a match.

You will be fine. S2 had the same GPA; higher Math SAT but lower CR SAT and was accepted ED. I’m sure you will have a choice among colleges - make your decision based upon personal fit rather than magazine ranking.
