What school is the right fit for me??

Yes CH very hard OOS…I didn’t distinguish between safeties, matches and reaches. I also think Wake Forest is somewhat of a reach…I know students from the northeast who were waitlisted with your stats ( I say this without seeing your entire application). I think you have been given a nice mix of schools to explore.

I agree with MWolf in that many of the science and math majors are liberal arts.

I would second Holy Cross & Boston College.

If you like Lehigh, you might also like Bucknell, Lafayette, Colgate, and Union.
If you like BU, you might also like Villanova, Tufts, and Pitt.

Of course, I offer these without knowing what drew you to these two. But these have been overlaps for lots of kids.

These two statements don’t mean the same thing. If you have to worry about the budget “later,” as opposed to now, then there’s a budget.

Unless your parents have explicitly said they’re willing/able to pay $300k (without borrowing) you should ask them how much they’ll pay. If they haven’t run any net price calculators yet they probably should.

It’s not uncommon for teens to post that finances aren’t a problem because they assume they’ll get lots of merit or need based aid, or they think their upper income parents will pay. Grants aren’t always easy to get and parents have been known to balk at the costs after the acceptances come in. Make sure you’re really clear about the finances.

Have you asked your parents if they can pay $70,000+ per year on college? If you have not asked them that question, then you do have to think about a budget.

Yes, my parents and I have talked about $ in regards to college-- however, I do not feel comfortable sharing that on this site. It is not a factor which I would like to take into consideration here: I am really only using this post to find more schools to look into. Thank you for all the suggestions! The Colgate/Lafayette/Union bunch I ruled out a little because I thought they were a little small and isolated. Also, not Catholic so I’m not really looking at Villanova, and I think Tufts is out of my testing range :frowning:

In regards to the STEM majors being liberal arts as well, do you all think that Lehigh (a very STEM-oriented school) also has a large liberal arts community?

Take another look at Lafayette. It has a great campus, is Liberal Arts with Engineering, Easton is a decent sized town with lots to do and it’s an easy train or bus into NYC or Philadelphia (about 1.5 hours). Lots of school spirit and the rivalry game (The Rivalry) with Lehigh is legendary (and one of the best tailgates on the East Coast).

Chapel Hill is hard OOS but worth a look as as a reach school - it has a nice, happening campus and is well rounded with both STEM and Humanities being strong. (No engineering though)
Lots of school spirit, both the sports kind and the ‘this is our school and we love it’ kind.

i see that holy cross was mentioned. they’re a big “show interest” school so i would recommend doing a alumni interview in your area as soon as possible and put your name on their mailing list. also any emails you send to your admissions counselor there will be attached to your application. the great thing about college of the holy cross is that it is only undergrads so the research opportunities and their resources are endless, i assume these are important for a science or math person but they also have big econ and sociology research too.

@Temperantia I really liked Lafayette when I toured for all of those reasons but thought it might’ve felt a little small. Do you know any schools similar to it that are a little bigger?

@DodosAreDead that sounds exactly like what I’m looking for! I’m just afraid that coming from OOS my odds are fairly slim. Do you know any schools similar to Chapel Hill?

I’m just a grade above you so my knowledge is pretty limited tbh, so I’ll leave the recommendations to others. If you apply Early Action to Chapel Hill (which shouldn’t be an issue since even Restrictive Early Action to the Ivies lets you apply EA to public schools) you have a non-negligible chance. I know quite a few people who got in with your stats (OOS), and several who didn’t. Worst case, you don’t get in. Then you have other options which you’re looking into already, and if you do get in it’s a solid, solid choice.

Agree with many of the schools already listed. One that comes to mind is University of Miami in Oxford Ohio. It might check your box for school spirit, seasons, and size.

CH is going to be a very big reach coming from OOS. If you apply, then I would add UVA…both schools belong in the “high reach” category as an OOS applicant. They are peer schools with more similarities than differences, with CH having a more “chill” vibe.

Have you considered Penn State?

@lovesummer123 , Richmond, Wake, and Tulane come to mind. The later two are national universities but their undergrad is Liberal Arts focused.

@Empireapple I’ll look into it! Thanks so much. @twogirls Do you believe both CH and UVA are too much of a reach? I previously thought that both were extremely difficult from OOS, especially with my stats (I do have some B/B+'s on my transcript from freshman/sophomore year). I also thought that Penn State was wayyy too big for me. @Temperantia Thanks so much!! I’ll look into them.

Yes they would both be classified as a reach.

@twogirls do you think they’re too much of a reach that it is not even worth it to apply?

Applying to a reach or two is fine…if you have safety and match schools and if you could afford the extra fees.

I do think they are big reaches, yet at the same time I don’t know the history of your HS with regard to these two schools. Have you discussed this with your guidance counselor?
