What school supplies are needed?

I am taking: Biology, Trigonometry, English, Psychology, and Public Speaking.

I was thinking about just bringing some spiral notebooks for each subject and a folder for each subject.

Will that work?

definitely notebooks – for trig probably a calculator, protractor, compass – and that should do it i think

My daughter was a highlighting nut, and a stapler for those papers

Some classes work with binders, it just depends, the supplies at the college bookstore are usually not any more expensive than other stores

but bring your favorite pens and rumor has it if you right in black it is taken more seriouslly then if you write in blue

^I’ve written in black since middle school. I just don’t like the way blue looks.

Here’s what I’m doing (per the advice of my older sister):

-In your MS Outlook (if you have it), go through your calendar and put all your classes in, with a different color for each dept./class. That way your calendar will be all pretty and color-coded. Also make a color for school holidays, and separate one for national holidays. Delete the classes from the days you have holidays so that you don’t look at the calendar and decide to go.
-Get a large (2" ish) binder and a single-subject notebook for each subject (or if you’re like me and taking 5 subjects, just get a 5-subject notebook if that floats your boat). That way you can have all your notebooks in one place, and still have somewhere to keep all that filler paper you’ve been in love with since high school. And, according to my sister, college profs are in love with handouts.
-Keep dividers in said binder with paper and handouts for each section.
-Remember that calendar? Do it by semester (obviously), print it out and put it in your folder. Then, when you’re in class and your prof says “by next class, read ______ and write 3 paragraphs on it”, write it down on your calendar.
-Once a week (Fridays), go through and type all of these “write-ins” into your Outlook Calendar.

wow, i totally agree about black pen vs. blue – i thought i was the only one haha!

“but bring your favorite pens and rumor has it if you right in black it is taken more seriouslly then if you write in blue”

And what about mechanical pencils? I make far too many mistakes to write in pen!

Does it really matter what color pen you use? I’ve always hated writing in black pen.

Sometimes tou have to write a test in pen. And the blue v black thing- it was something my daughters were told when prepping for APs, etc, that readers and graders tend to like black more.

I like blue for my notes, etc., and I am sure it doesn’t make that much of a difference, but it is just what we ahve heard

Bring two colors of pens or get a mechanical pencil with red/blue lead. I’ve found having two colors is invaluable in highlighting important concepts/words as I’m taking notes and really helps me hone in on key ideas when I’m studying (or hunting my notes for an equation on the homework). It’ll also be great for technical classes where professors tend to use multicolored chalk or markers on a graph, so you’ll have some way to emulate their drawings.

A pencil box, magic markers, colored pencils, tissues

hmm I don’t know about bringing a pencil box/case. I mean, if you need a box for geometry tools etc then sure, but according to college students I know, anything else is seen as a bit childish. They just take a pen and pencil loose- leave the highlighters etc for your desk.

do we need alot of folders and paper?

Extra pens and pencils. Seriously. They disappear.

Don’t forget the ruler, spiral notebooks, wide ruled loose leaf paper, graphing paper, crayons, permanant marker, highlighters, liquid glue, glue sticks, safety scissors, eraser, pencils, pencil sharpener, and agenda. You get extra credit if you bring an extra box of tissues or disinfectant wipes/spray. I’m sure that there are a few others I forgot.

Seriously, do you really think that your school supplies needed will differ from high school? Probably not.

I am planning on buying one folder for each class and one for other miscellanous stuff.

Check with the professors. My English professor wants a laptop in the classroom every session. For others a notebook will work.

A few notebooks and binders, and then a boatload of paper and pencils/pens. Anything specific you can buy there.
