Which schools am i competitive for and which are too far out of reach?

VP of math league President of Science league and go to public school

Get your SAT scores up, write good essays, and you’ll probably get into one of your top choices.

You do not have enough matches (if any).

@uclaparent9 I thought NYU UVA BC and BU were matches ???

@ben69420 thanks! Do u think my GPA trend counts for something or nah

@zantheman UVA is really not a match for anyone out of state. The only real match here in my opinion is BU with BC as a low reach and UVA/UCLA/NYU as mid reaches. Add a few more match schools to your list and maybe narrow down some of the reaches. You have great stats, but this process is brutal and there will be hundreds of people applying with the exact same if not better academic credentials.

@zantheman Upward trend never hurts.

@hyoot7 @uclaparent9 What schools do you think would be considered matches for me judging by my stats?

I wish I know your UWGPA and UC GPA to chance you better. In California, I consider mid-tier UCs to be perhaps (high) matches for you. UCSC perhaps a match.

Johns Hopkins-reach
UPenn-high reach
MIT-high reach
Harvard-high reach
Yale-high reach
Princeton-high reach
Georgetown-reach
NYU-low reach
UVA-low reach
Cornell-reach
Columbia-high reach
Brown-high reach
Dartmouth-reach
Boston College-reach
Boston University-low reach
Berkeley/UCLA-reach
Rutgers-match

I personally would not submit the math 1 SAT2 score to any colleges and try to boost the rest to be competitive
SAT1-low end of average for the schools you have listed (CR/W below 25% percentile)

Match/safety schools would depend on major. Are you thinking humanities or STEM?
Please PM me with any questions

@onlynongenius I’m thinking about majoring in neuroscience, my new SAT score is a 1510, do you have any advice on what schools would be a match for me?

Just looking at the stats, here’s me last year:

Chinese male
GPA: 4.10 W/3.95 UW
SAT: 800 M 720 CR 740 W (about 1550 in the new SAT)
SAT II: US Hist. 800 Math II 800 Chem. 780 World Hist. 770
ACT: 35 composite (you should probably take a look at the test)

Senior year: 3 AP’s, 1 self-study AP, 2 Honors and 1 dual enrollment

Previous AP’s: World Hist. 5, U.S. Hist. 5, Comp. Sci. A 5, Chem. 5

EC’s:
NHS
Science HS
French HS
Robotics: Treasurer (won awards and helped out in the community)
Table Tennis: Treasurer (raised money for the community)
Asian culture club: Vice-President
150+ hours at the public library

To put things in perspective, when it comes to the Ivy League I am near the bottom of the pack. I was rejected from Princeton EA and was barely accepted to Cornell RD. Some of my friends have far higher scores than I did, better grades and far more national achievements; they were rejected from all their reaches. When it comes down to it, the college process can be very subjective, so having so many reaches might not be the best idea. I would cut your list down to only those that you like the best and have the most to offer you.
