What schools are considered particularly liberal or conservative?

NEU has a strong pre-professional emphasis, so political activism (of any alignment) is probably muted (much as it is in many non-flagship state universities with similar pre-professional emphases).

Not CMC. They are conservative.

From the people I have talked to at CMC, they describe the climate as moderate, maybe a bit libertarian. Certainly not conservative. They are just less liberal in comparison to the stereotype of the leftist liberal arts colleges. Even the ones that are considered very liberal have small populations of conservatives.

Read yik yak for the 5Cs. Quite a bit of Trump support there. And read the Claremont Independent. They are a conservative college.

@intparent I think that conservative is a relative term. By college student standards, CMC is conservative. It’s the only one of the 5C’s with self-identified Republicans on the faculty. Also it attracts a lot of students who hope to go into investment banking and similar careers. But I also don’t think you can read too much into Yik Yak because it could be one or two people making a bunch of provocative comments. You can’t even be sure the Yik Yak comments are from real 5C students. The Claremont Independent, as you know, is not the official student newspaper of CMC. The CMC Forum, which is the official student newspaper, is much more liberal, as is The Student Life (Pomona) and the Peel (Pitzer). But the fact that the CI exists adds something very interesting to the mix. Also CI ran a story with survey results graphing the actual views of the staff on lots of issues such as pot legalization, death penalty, abortion, gun control, etc. http://claremontindependent.com/survey-of-the-claremont-independent-staff/.

"Interesting’ is not how the other 4Cs view the CI for the most part…

I’ve read a book recently which attempted to categorize colleges with regards to conservative or liberal views. This type of categorization makes more sense for a smaller college as larger ones are almost by definition more homogenous. Let me add the United States Military Academy at West Point as a conservative leaning school
